Chase wasn't sure what it was about him that he found interesting, but he couldn't help but take a trip up to the lighthouse on his day off. He thought about going to see Brent, but he wasn't sure he wanted to deal with the awkwardness that was going to come from it. Brent didn't want anything more than a one night stand, and Chase needed time to get over that fact. What better way than books?
He was actually excited to see all the first editions of books that Mori said he had. Chase was a sucker for books and Mori liked them. Mori seemed like a nice guy, and definitely someone Chase could be friends with. He just seemed... likable and for Chase, you needed to be likable. He was a fallen, too. Which was a plus. He had been down on Earth for a long time now, Chase was jealous he didn't fall earlier. It would have been cool to see how the world had progressed, even though Chase was sure he would be able to see the progression of the world now until the world in future years.
So he walked up the the lighthouse and was glad to see the light was shining. He had his drum sticks in his back pocket out of habit. He never really went anywhere without them. They were one of those things that felt... nature to have with him. Almost like he wasn't completely himself without them. He knocked on the door and waited for Mori to answer with slight impatience.

It was a strange sort of day, overcast and full of restless wind. The sea was uneasy, and so was Moriel. He had woken that day to a phone call from his daughter - just checking in. During their conversation, the topic of her mother had come up, and set him off on a sentimental sort of fixation. Mary had died far too young. He hadn't worn his wedding ring in years, but, reminiscent, indulged himself in putting it on. It was a comfort to him at times, knowing so many people he had loved were at rest somewhere, looking down on him as he had once looked down on the world. To calm himself, Mori made a large pot of black rose tea, a modest omelette, and sat down with a Vonnegut he had yet to read - Galapagos. He was greatly enjoying it thus far. The humor was dark, but satisfyingly honest. After breakfast, he set about his morning meditation and yoga. He was in the lotus position, a stem of sage incense burning on the mantle, when he was interrupted by a knocking. Unhurried, the angel rose, massive wings stretched out behind him, and walked down to the front door. He was pleased to see the demon he had met the other day on his doorstep. And wasn't that a funny thought? An angel, pleased to see a demon. In any case, this was no ordinary demon. This one seemed purely a victim of circumstance and cruelly steep expectations. Meeting grief watchers was one of the few times that Moriel wondered at his father's choices. Their lives seemed so bleak. "Hello, Chase," he said with a mild smile. "I'm glad you came by. Please, come in." He stepped out of the way, holding the door opened, and motioned him inside. "I've just made some tea, if you'd like some." Outfit! Home images: 1, 2, 3

Chase gave Mori a smile back when he saw the smile the angel gave him. It was weird. Most angels didn't like demons. There were a few out there that didn't care whether you were an angel or a demon, but most tended to stay away from them. Chase liked that Mori was different. It... was a nice change. People were mean to others. Chase knew that first hand. He was tortured by a demon because he was an angel. In the end, the demon won and Chase turned.
"Hey. I figured I'd come by...I hope the invitation is still valid."
Chase said as he walked into the angels house. It was beautiful on the inside... so calm and serene. "Tea sounds nice, actually. This is a lovely home. So beautiful. I think the lighthouse makes it even better." Chase told Mori with another smile. He walks around slowly, looking at the beauty of the place and taking it in. It looked amazing. Nothing compared to Chase's horrible ass apartment. Then again.. Chase didn't deserve anything but the worst. In his mind at least. It was one of the mental issues Chase has had to endure since the torturing in the States. Something that he will probably have to live with for his entire life. He doesn't think he's good enough for anything. [/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: Clicky! || Notes: --- || Tagged: Mori

Closing the door behind Chase, Mori motioned toward the stairs. "Of course it is. I'm glad to have the company. The sitting room is just up there." He followed Chase into the living room and motioned for him to sit before walking into the kitchen for the tea. He came back with a tea tray and set it on the coffee table. He looked around the lighthouse, trying to see it as Chase was, as if for the first time. It struck him how different it was now compared to when it was first built. "Yes, it has undergone a lot of renovation over the centuries. It's completely sustainable now, runs off of solar panels. It used to be that a coal furnace in the basement fueled everything. And before that, the light up top was just a wood-burning fire projected with mirrors." He sat on the chair opposite Chase and poured some tea into each of the glasses before picking up his own and stirring in some sugar. "I can hardly take credit for the decor, though. It has always been someone I lived with that updated everything. If it wasn't for my late wife, Emma, it might never have been set up for electricity." He laughed and shook his head. Motioning toward the very modern-looking paintings on the wall, Mori added, "My daughter, Angela, is responsible for most of this."

Chase followed Mori up to the sitting room and sat down while he went to get the tea. Chase still couldn't believe how amazing it all looked. He couldn't wrap his head around it. He just looked around the room at the different kinds of pictures that hung around the place. Chase supposed they were old pictures. Mori had spent centuries on Earth... Chase was kind of jealous of that fact. In a way. Life... was getting better. At least. Since he had moved to Alderford it had gotten better. He wasn't being attacked every night here. He had made some friends here. Sort of. Mori seemed like a friend. So did Bree and Brent. Even if he had wanted Brent as more than a friend. That was already history.
"So you've been married then? Isn't that hard... if they're not an angel or a demon? They would keep leaving you in the end.. I'm not sure I could handle that."
Chase said with a sympathetic voice. Chase had never really been in a relationship. More like... a few one night stands here and there. Brent was the closest he'd come to actually liking someone, and that had already passed, he hoped. "How many children do you have? I've always thought kids were the most adorable things." [/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: Clicky! || Notes: --- || Tagged: Mori

Sipping his tea mildly, Moriel took in the wonderment on his guest's face. He supposed this was nicer than his new friend was used to. The pictures that lined the walls, they showed a long-stretched timeline. There was one of himself with Mary and the children when they were young. There was a more grainy, yellowed one of him and a broad-grinned young man, his arms wrapped around Mori's neck. The only other photographs were black and white - one of himself and a young woman in a wedding dress - Emma - and another of him and that same woman with four children. Another showed him with two very old women in wheelchairs - his daughters, Ida and Clara. There were more, of course, but not many. He had a few portraits as well, from before photography. "It is...difficult, sometimes," he agreed. "But I like to think that the time spent with them makes up for the time missing them. Besides, I find humans very easy to love. As a species, they are incredibly earnest and curious. It's one of the reasons I fell in the first place - to be a part of that. I've been married ten times, and kept two lovers." Moriel smiled, fondly reminiscent. "I have two surviving children, a boy and a girl. Well, I should say a man and a woman. They're quite grown now. There were forty-seven others before them, though." He smirked. "It sounds like a lot, I know...the seventeenth century was a time of rather large families." Setting his tea cup down, Mori sat back in his chair. "But I would hate to bore you, sitting here and yarning about days past. How have you found Earth in the time that you've been here? It's fascinating, if nothing else, I think." Photos: 1

Chase listened carefully to what Mori was saying. He had sure lived a long time... all those wives. All those children. It must have been extremely hard outliving them all. He supposed it was like he said though. Spend the time he had with them while it lasted. Chase... didn't think he could do that though. What did surprise him was when Mori mentioned lovers. He followed Mori's gaze to a bunch of pictures. One of him and a guy. It looked absolutely adorable. Chase smiled and looked back at the angel while holding his tea tightly. "I wouldn't have expected you like guys... actually. I pegged you as straight."
Chase said with a laugh before looking down at his tea. "I'm actually gay though... so don't think I mind or anything." Chase decided it would be good to mention that. Everyone always asked about his time on Earth. Chase hadn't had a good one... he didn't like talking about it. He didn't want to talk about it. He wasn't going to be a dick about it though. "I... I haven't actually liked it to be honest. Some bad stuff happened during my time in the States. Stuff... I don't exactly talk about. It's been getting better here though." [/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: Clicky! || Notes: --- || Tagged: Mori

With a laugh, Moriel smiled, understanding Chase's surprise. "For me, gender has very little to do with love. Of course, societal norms prevented me from pursuing same-sex relationships for quite a while." He nodded toward the photograph Chase had been eyeing. "That was William. It was quite a relief to be with him openly."
He listened to Chase's assessment of his time on earth with a thoughtful expression. It showed a tempered hint of sympathy, but for the most part, it was understanding. "I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you don't give up on it just yet, though. The bad parts...well, they tend to make the good all the sweeter." He topped off his cup of tea. "It can be discouraging at times, and very easy to fixate on the violence and hate. Many of our kind fall to cynicism because of it. But when you look deeper, it really is a beautiful place for the most part."
Mori cocked his head to the side a bit as he studied Chase. "I'm glad things are getting better, though. I hope they will continue to do so. You're the sort that deserves happiness the most."

Chase thought that would be hard. To hide a relationship because it wasn't accepted in society. His mind flashed to his night with Brent the other day. He couldn't imagine a world that it wouldn't be acceptable for two men to dance and kiss each other in the middle of the semi crowded pub. It was natural for him. Hell... Chase had been fucked in the corner of a bar before. Back in America. It was mainly a gay bar, but that wasn't the point. There were straight people there. Chase thought at least.
"Well you two made an adorable couple."
Chase told him before taking a sip of his tea and listening to what Mori said about Earth. Yeah... he was learning that it wasn't exactly a horrible place to be. He had just gone to the wrong place at the wrong time before. "I kind of really hate violence now. What happened kind of changed me. Well... It majorly changed me. It was what turned me Demon. Carford is better though. There are nicer people here." Chase said before catching the next bit Mori had said. He blushed like mad and buried his head in his cup of tea. He was unsure of what he was supposed to say to that. His sort? What did that mean. Looking at the picture of himself with William, Mori felt warm inside. They had some beautiful times together, and that's what he liked to think about - not hospital rooms and the smell of disease. "He was a good man," Moriel agreed with a fond expression. "He died too young. It seems so many of these mortals do." "For a city at war, I agree. Carford is a very caring place for the most part. We have our share of problems, of course, but it's a good place for creatures like ourselves." He watched Chase's blush and supposed this tortured demon didn't think quite the same way. Mori reached over and placed a large, strong hand on Chase's knee. "That's just what I mean, though. That you hate violence after whatever it is that happened to you. So many people succumb to it, become cruel. For you to come out of that kind...it says quite a bit about your character. I hope you know that." He smiled encouragingly, staring directly into Chase's eyes. He wanted to be sure that his words got through, that the obvious self-hatred he saw in this creature's eyes might ease a bit. Photos: 2

Chase didn't know much about people around him dying young. He was never exactly close to anyone in his lifetime. He was alone up in heaven just as much as he was alone in America. He didn't exactly like that, but it was the truth. If it mean that he didn't have to go through the grief he was force to feel from everyone else, then he was fine with that.
He was just about to say at least Mori got to spend time with William while he was alive before he felt a hand on his knee. Chase's eyes got slightly wide and his mouth opened but no words actually came out of it. He wasn't used to people actually being nice to him. He wasn't used to kind physical comfort like what Mori was doing right now. It took Chase a little long than it should before he reached down and grabbed Mori's hand with his own and gave it a good squeeze. He looked up to meet the angel's gaze and stared into his amazing dark blue eyes. They were soft, and kind. Chase's expression relaxed and he smiled slightly, not moving his eyes from their locked gaze. "Thank you... it means more to me than you probably can ever understand."

His eyes flitted down to the hand on his. It had been a long while since he'd had any human contact, probably since the last time Angela had come to visit, nearly a year ago. Mori looked back up at Chase's gaze and his serene smile spread across his face, becoming something more like affection. "I'm a watcher of wisdom, remember?" he said. "It's my job to understand."
Moriel made no move to take his hand back, happy to give Chase the comfort as long as he needed it. He really was impressed by the sincerity he found in the demon. It was a rarity. "You are...unique," he said after a moment. "It's funny. After all this time on Earth, I still find such wonderful surprises." He felt an urge he hadn't felt in several years: the urge to reach over and stroke the demon's cheek. Mori supposed that might not be the most appropriate of actions, though. Instead, he stroked his thumb over the inside of Chase's knee.
"Thank you...for reaffirming my optimism, I suppose." He laughed gently. The light coming through the large windows on the far side of the room shifted through hanging crystals, dangling from the ceiling lamps. They cast shimmering bits of color across the room, a few landing on Chase and Mori.

That was true... he was a watcher of wisdom. Shouldn't he understand more than anyone else. Chase just... wasn't sure if the words would be able to come out of his mouth. "I'm not... sure I can actually tell you. I've never told anyone what happened."
Chase told him with a small voice, finding comfort in their hands on his own knee. Chase thought that... yeah. He was unique. That didn't exactly mean a good thing though. He could be unique in a bad way too. Mori had said a wonderful surprise though... didn't that mean good? So.. maybe he wasn't fucking something up here. For once in his life. His mind flashed to Brent. He felt like he was betraying him. But no... Brent didn't want anything more than a one night stand. Chase would move on. He had to. Maybe Mori was what he could move on to. Chase was getting ahead of himself... he had just met him. He barely knew anything about the guy. His eyes flickered away from Mori's only when he saw a little bit of color on Mori's arm. He smiled wide at it. "This place is so beautiful." Chase whispered in awe, looking around at the different pieces of color that were coming from the natural light. Maybe it was the entire scene. The thumb moving on Chase's knee from the hand he was holding there. The bits of colored light. The closeness that made Chase smile. It just seemed kind of perfect. Nodding in mild understanding, the angel assured him, "I wouldn't expect it of you by any means. But should you feel the need, I'm told I'm a very good listener." A hint of a smirk brushed his lips. It usually surprised people, the first time they heard him use something resembling humor. Even an angel couldn't be serious all the time. He squeezed Chase's knee gently, encouraging. "They say burdens shared are burdens halved, after all."
Moriel felt strange when their eye contact broke, like waking from hypnosis. He looked around the lighthouse again. "I do love it here. After nearly four centuries here, it feels like it's a part of me. Though I suppose it's more like I'm a part of it." A strange and curious expression overtook him, and the angel stood, his wings stretching out behind him. He tugged Chase to his feet and pulled him to the windows overlooking Dead Man's Harbor, still holding his hand.
"When I first came to Alderford, these shores were a graveyard. The people went hungry because it was so dangerous for the trade ships to come near." He looked out over the rough waves, whipped up by that day's strong winds. "I myself arrived by boat. It went down just over there." Mori pointed to a rocky shore on the opposite side of the harbor. "I was only able to save a few, my daughters and a couple of children. You see, I had spent most of my time on Earth as an adviser. And this whole city seemed so lost. It was like it had been calling for me, waiting for a guide to come."

Chase considered it... he briefly considered telling Mori what had happened to him when he was in America. He hadn't told anyone... but he considered telling Mori. It couldn't be that bad. Mori seemed like a good person. He seemed like someone Chase could trust. Before he could actually decide on whether or not he was going to tell Mori, he was dragged to his feet and pulled over to a window that looked over the harbor. Their hands still together.
Instead of looking out at the water when Mori spoke, Chase looked directly at him. Listening to the story that was actually kind of sad. At least Mori was able to save his daughters. A few other children as well. "That would have been kind of hard... but at least you saved some of the children. Especially your own."
Chase mumbled, unsure of exactly how to respond to the story Mori had told him. He thought that maybe it would be a good place to tell a story of his own. "When I fell from Heaven... I thought the States would be the best place for me to go. I went to New York. I lived in there for awhile. Worked a few odd jobs and moved around quite often. I.. there was a Demon there. The first few times of me running into him didn't account for very much other than him telling me I didn't deserve to be on Earth. After about a month of random meetings with him, none of them my doing, he decided verbal conflict wasn't enough. He started following me. Harassing me. He would attack me in alleys and leave me there until I could get up for myself and go back home. I kept trying to get rid of him, but it never worked until I came here. It went on for ten years. The attacks happening as often as once a week." Chase was holding onto Mori's hand tightly and he was trying to stop the tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
