Chase was happy. He didn't know how it was possible to be this happy. He had dressed extra happy today and even put some eyeliner on. He was shelving some books and whistling to a Fall Out Boy song while he did so. He didn't understand how he went from nearly dying in America to finding two good friends and maybe one of them was a bit more. He wasn't entirely sure what was going on with him and Brent at the moment... but he wasn't going to push it. He found out that Brent was jealous and that he came to the library before just for him. That had to be something.
He wasn't going to push Brent to do something more. He didn't want to push him away. He was going to wait and just be around Brent as much as he can at the moment. He liked spending time with him and liked being with him. He wasn't going to stop anytime soon for any reason. Chase had never felt this way about anyone. Had never liked anyone... it was almost too good to be true actually.

Amy needed a job. She had plenty of money-she'd been saving for years, so cash wasn't a concern- but after being in the house for so long, she need to get out and at least attempt to socialize. She left Reuben with a babysitter early on in the day, and headed toward Carford library. She'd seen a job advertised in the newspaper she got delivered, and later decided to go for it.
Being a lover of books, Amy was accustomed to going in libraries, but rarely did she visit them- her own selection of books was large enough to keep her occupied for years.
Nevertheless, she loved the smell of libraries;the scent of old, musty pages mixed with the smell of new ones created a new smell that could only be described as 'bookish'. Also, libraries, or anywhere with large quantities of books, were the only places that calmed her.
She took a deep breath before stepping inside the library- she did wish to make a good impression, after all. The bookish smell, familiar, washed over her, and she was instantly calmed.
A man popped out of nowhere; Amy supposed that this was the one and only librarian in Carford. "Hi", she whispered. "I'm Amy McKinney. I-I'm here about the job?"

Chase jumped a bit when he heard a women talking. He hadn't exactly heard anyone come in or anything. That was odd. Chase supposed he had just been too caught up in the books and whistling music to pay attention to people coming in. He was a bit shocked when she told him her name though. McKinney...? Was she any relation to Brent? He didn't know Brent had any relations around here. "McKinney? Are you related to Brent any? He's one of my friends."
[/b] Chase asked with a smile before leaving the shelves and walking over to his desk, assuming she would just follow him. He grabbed a piece of paper out of his desk and handed it to her. "Here. Fill that out real quick. It's just mandatory for me to do so. If you want the job, you basically have it. We don't get many applicants or anything. Or really many people. Library's aren't popular now a days."[/b] Chase explained with his normal smile. It'd be good to have another librarian. He was tired of working everyday all day. Amy stared at the piece of paper she held; it was crinkling in her grip. Silently, she scanned the information printed on the whit document. He knew Brent.
Grabbing a pen left abandoned on a bookshelf, she started scribbling down her personal details and interests; it was all necessary, as the man had mentioned.
As she tailed him to his desk, she reached the last question. She was pressing too hard on the paper, so the pen ripped through; it was a small tear, so she had to hope that the librarian wouldn't notice.
"It's sad how libraries aren't popular any more, isn't it?" Amy said; as she received no reply, she assumed that she'd spoken too quietly.
By this point, the pair had reached the librarian's desk; a tag on the front revealed that the librarian's name was Chase Jackson.
As she handed the paper back to Chase, she said, "I sure do hope I get the job- I like libraries a lot."
She busied herself around the library for half the day, dusting and rearranging books, when she ran ito Chase once more. She said, "As it turns out, yes, I am related to Brent McKinney- it isn't just a coincidence we have the same surname! I'm his ex-wife."

Chase took the piece of paper with a smile. He had seen her look at his name tag, so figured it wasn't worth telling his name now. It was kind of pointless actually. He started reading what she wrote while she went and did stuff around the library. Chase liked her... He really liked her actually. She liked books, Chase liked her. That was how he worked. Well. Not completely because he liked Brent and he was pretty sure Brent didn't actually like books since he admitted to coming to the library just for him. Even if he had left weirdly.
When she came back a bit later he was going to tell her she got the job before she spoke about Brent. She was... no. But he hadn't. He never... He surely would have... "You're his ex wife? Brent was... married?"
[/b] Chase questioned with a dumbstruck look. What was this. Why wouldn't Brent mention something like that. "He never said he was married before. Uhm. Right... well you got the job. So whenever you wanna start officially you can."[/b] Chase said a little blankly. He wasn't sure what to think of the new information. Amy looked at Chase's face. She wasn't entirely sure what expression he was making- his face seemed....plain.
"Y-yeah, me and Brent were married", Amy said. Looking down at her boots, she murmured, "we had a kid and everything." She continued talking as she started dusting the bookshelves once more.
"We were happy for a while." Her voice was wistful for a single second, before becoming harsher. She'd started rearranging the books on the shelves, and rammed the books right to the back of the shelves, causing the bookcase to shudder in protest. "And then everything went wrong." Having finished cleaning, she glanced at Chase, who had a bewildered expression on his face now.
"Oh well, it's all in the past." she smiled sadly, "all in the past." Raking a hand through her red hair, she wiped her other hand on her jeans. It had gotten rather dusty.
"I'm sorry he didn't tell you, Chase. Really, I am." She put her hands in her jeans pockets. "I-I'm sure--" She broke off, shaking her head. "Look, thanks for the job. I'll start tomorrow." Flicking her hair out of her face, she continued further into the library, her boots slightly squeaking.

Could you hear that? That faint sound that seemed to echo through Chase's ears. It was the sound of his heart breaking into a million pieces. To have a past marriage was one thing. But to have a fucking kid and to not tell him was a completely other story. Sure... they weren't together or anything, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt. They both liked each other. Chase was sure of that. Well... he had been before he realized Brent had never told him that before. That was too big to not have come up. A child.
Chase snapped out of it for a second. He looked up at her before she left. "Don't worry about it. I'm sure he had a good reason for not telling me. And I'm sorry it didn't end up working out between you."
[/b] Or I'm fucking glad. Chase said as he shook his head and she walked off. She would start tomorrow. That was awesome. Chase was glad to have someone else working here, and she must be cool if Brent decided to marry her, right? Of course. Amy sat down and picked up a large volume, containing far too many pages. Instead of reading she thought about the other librarian- Chase.
'I'm sure he had a good reason for not telling me', he'd said. Why did it really matter to him so much, anyway? She wasn't aware that Brent's past was that big of a secret. She remembered Chase's expression, a mix of disbelief and anger, and almost felt bad for telling him. But Chase seemed like a nice enough guy; if anyone deserved to know, it was him.
Amy was, of course, glad to have the job, but she wondered if her and Chase were going to be able to get along. He was friends with Brent- she knew that much- and as her and Brent weren't exactly pals right now she was concerned.
Whatever was going on between Chase and Brent- if there was anything- couldn't concern her. Her life was a mess right now without her getting into other people's problems.
She hoped her and Chase could get along. They seemed...sort of similar, in a book-loving way, and besides, Amy could really do with hanging around with someone who didn't hate her.
