The dark is fascinating, don't you think? The lack of light, I find, is something bewitching and, being the Demon that I am, I can't help but feel attracted to it. Like a moth to light. I've watched the humans from my perch in the Heavens evolve technologically. I watched them as electricity was invented. Fucking thing. As useful as it is, because of it, there is now no true darkness. Even as I lay on the forest floor, a cigarette dangling between my lips, and staring up at a night sky... I find that it is starless. The light from neighboring Alderres is contaminating the sky with its polluting light. An absolute shame. Even here I am bathed in an extremely faint, eerie, mustard yellow glow. Not enough to, say, read a book but definitely enough to not permit complete darkness and stargaze. How annoying.
Giving up, I sat up, leaning my weight back on the palms of my hands and looked around. Surely there had to be something else that could keep me entertained for an hour or so. It wasn't a lot to ask for. Just a spot of fun to tide me over until I went back to Mack and Alex's apartment. Maybe someone would wander past, a late night dog-walker, a night owl, someone who couldn't sleep or someone who just had a lot on their mind. Or a creature that simply enjoyed the solace that the dark provided. I wasn't going to get my hopes up too much though.
Exhaling smoke through my nose, I got up off the forest floor and turned my attention towards the mouth to the nearby mines. They were closed for the night. Empty. The entrance sitting like a sinister, gaping mouth, the wooden beams lining the dark hole like brown, rotting teeth and the cart tracks leading into blackness. It was as if it were waiting to be fed. Patiently waiting. Still in the night.
Hands on my hips, I stared it down. It looked... interesting. It looked dark. It looked... fun. If only I had some company to join me on what could or might be solely an innocent trip into the mouth of a hungry monster. I could pretend that my pet had dashed into it, spooked by the flapping of an angry, woken bat. Ooh... there'd be bats in there. Now I really had to go for a wander inside. But, I would linger outside for a little while longer. Who knows what other creatures were ambling aimlessly in the dark like me.
