~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There was a certain beauty in being invisible. He could walk amongst crowds of people; other Fallen, Demons, Nephilim and Humans and not a single one of them would know of his presence. It gave him a feeling of power and control. However, sometimes being unseen was boring. He walked the streets of Carford for a little longer before he found an ally- just outside Carford Plaza- that he used so he could make himself visible again without witnesses. Yes, people in Alderford knew of special abilities but that didn’t mean he wanted everyone to know his abilities. Once again it was about control and power- if people didn’t know what he could do they wouldn’t be able to anticipate his moves. It was like that infamous saying; knowledge is power.
Before he left the ally way he tucked Dessie and his quiver of bows underneath his long coat but made sure they were easily accessible if necessary and then, once again visible he walked out the ally casually. He took a slight peek into people’s minds to make sure no one saw him and he was happy to find no one had because even though he could alter their memory so they didn’t see anything he preferred not to mess with free will. Of course, it didn’t mean he was opposed to it- he just considered it a last resort.
Carford Plaza was holding a large open market with a variety of stalls that ranged from selling organic home grown food to beautiful little trinkets to hand made clothing to flowers. The place was alive with energy and it almost was ordinary and carefree enough to make him forget about the current war. That was until he saw the statue of Prince Dominic standing strong and proud at the centre of the market. He rolled his eyes; those Princes were fools that were blinded by greed and pride and it was in their name countless of people had died.
Samson felt himself attracted to the stalls, people encouraging him and trying to tempt him to buy their sells at their ‘amazing prices’. As he looked at the trinkets he almost wished that he had someone to buy them for. They were pretty little things that’d make a lovely gift for someone you care about but he didn’t really have anyone in his life to buy them for so he passed the stall and moved to the next one which just happened to be the flower stall. He ran his index finger around the head of a daffodil with one of his slight smiles on his face. It was true that flowers were one of the most beautiful gifts that nature had to offer but once again, he had no use for them himself.
Bree didn't normally go to the marketplace to buy stock for her shop. She found trawling through the square laborious, and she didn't really like the crowds much. She loved people, sure, but the crowds were often pretty thick with people looking for bargains and/or gifts for their loved ones. Besides, then Bree would have to carry the stock home, and that was tiring. Even if she used her powers, which wouldn't really help anyways. Magical exhaustion was not any better than physical exhaustion.
But, on this particular day, Bree felt that she could make an exception. She'd woken up at 10am, and with nothing better to do and nowhere else to go, she;d decided a trip to the market could do her good. Besides, the air was clear and the sun was shining. It was a beautiful day. Wasn't Bree going to take advantage of that? Yes. Yes she was.
So, she slid on a dress and some sandals, grabbed her bag, and walked over to Carford plaza. Once she reached the market, she shook her head in slight dismay. It was buzzing with people. Not as many as there would usually be, but there were still quite a few. It was still quite early in the day, though. If Bree wanted to get anything from here, she'd have to be quick.
She walked over to the flower stall, and smiled almost instantaneously. Everywhere she looked on this stall, there were flowers. All the way from pale pink chrysanthemums and soft blue cornflowers to deep red roses and bright yellow daffodils. Her eyes lingered over the daffodils in particular. She loved them. How beautiful they were. How they were one of the first plants to bloom after the cold, bitter winter. For her, the sun yellow of the petals meant hope. And hope was never a bad thing to have.
She smiled softly as she let her fingers dance up the stem of one daffodil, rolling it between her fingers slightly. She looked up at the head of the plant for a fraction of a second...and that was when she saw someone else. A man. He gently brushed his finger over the head on one of the daffodils, a small smile on his face. But for some reason...that didn't seem right. It didn't seem happy. It seemed like a sad, almost reminiscent smile. She felt like she should talk to him. Just to make sure he was okay.
"Uh...sir? she said softly. She hated the formality of the word "sir", but she didn't know the man's name, and she liked to think she was a little too dignified for the term "mister". "Are you...Are you alright? Can I help you in any way?" She might not have worked at or owned the stall, but she owned a whole shop devoted to flowers. She could maybe help him out when it came to which flower to choose. Or...or maybe he just needed a hearing ear? Whatever. Either way, she'd be happy to help out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ His attention was gently guided elsewhere when a soft feminine voice asked if he needed help, his head raised from the trumpet shaped yellow and orange daffodil and turned to meet the face- the very beautiful porcelain face- of a female with beautiful waves of gold that cascaded down just past her shoulders. He eyes were a blue that had the crispness of winter and held some sorrow behind them, yet he noticed there was still a flicker of summer’s warmth inside them. They also gave away something very important; they held no lies. He looked at her and pieced together all the tell-tale signs that she was also a Fallen. It wasn’t the hardest of deductions and he hadn’t needed to use his powers, after all as the humans liked to say; it takes one to know one and the fact that her eyes held no sign of a lie being ever told he knew without even thinking about it that she was once a Watcher of Honesty, now fallen.
“I’m perfectly fine miss, I’m merely browsing- this is such a beautiful array of brilliant blooms, don’t you think?"He gave her a small smile.
“But I must confess that all of a sudden their beauty has been overshadowed by a gorgeous nameless female..."He found that the small smile on his face grew into his flirtatiously charming grin. He couldn't help himself when it came to flirting with females. He remembered once being told by a another Fallen of Honesty this one time over drinks that he must've meant to be a Cupid who was accidently created a Messanger. Samson, an Angel of Love? The thought had made him laugh then and made him inwardly chuckle now.
“Your name, miss?"He asked curiously.

Bree readied herself. From experience, she knew that people who weren't feeling their best would often try and lie about their feelings. Just to save themselves from being a burden. But what they didn't realise initially that they would be more of a burden if they lied than if they told the truth. It hurt a lot, just quickly, but still a substantial amount of pain.
However, she felt nothing, which made her sigh in relief, and smile at the gentleman. She could see him studying her form intently, which should have made her feel at least a little uncomfortable, but it didn't. She knew some people were like that, trying to get as much about a person as they could from their mere appearance, from what they saw at face value. And that was fine by her.
As the man spoke in a smooth, masculine voice, she nodded in agreement with a grin. "I think so too," she said. "But then, I'm the town's florist, so I would think that, wouldn't I?" She chuckled softly, and pushed her hair behind her ear. She couldn't help being a tiny bit biased. She loved plants, and was around them pretty much 24/7, so she would think that they were beautiful.
What she didn't expect, though, was that someone could overshadow the beauty f the blossoms in front of the pair at that moment. "Well, sir, I don't quite believe that would be possible." she said, with a smile. "And, if it was, I would have to meet this person, since they would have achieved the impossible." And then it dawned on her, after seeing the flirtatious, charming grin on his face...that he was talking about her.
"Oh..." she said faintly, feeling a blush begin to color her cheeks. That...that couldn't be true, could it? She hadn't felt anything. But...but maybe she'd heard him wrong? Yes, she had to have heard him wrong. "Um...well, thank you sir. I suppose. Though I don't...value my appearance." She gave another quiet, sunny laugh.
When the gentleman asked her name, Bree didn't hesitate. "My name's Bree." she said warmly, making sure her tone was friendly and light. "Bree Ripsen. Well, Ripsen was the name I adopted when I fell, anyways. And what might your name be, may I ask?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “The town’s florist? Ahhh I see, then I suppose you would think so"He smiled crookedly. He watched her with a slight bit of amusement as she didn’t quite grasp his compliment at first, thinking he was not talking about her. Then he saw the refusal to accept as realization struck “You’ve made the impossible possible it seems then"He chuckled lightly over her response to his compliment and almost thought she was modest but looking at the disbelief, denial and refusal to accept his compliment he could tell he genuinely didn’t believe his words. Which was very strange and somewhat sad in his opinion, whoever had made her so insecure and hurt her to the point that she no longer knew how beautiful she was deserved a good punch in the face. He couldn’t help it, he found himself whispering in the back of her mind “You are beautiful, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise" it was quiet enough for her to perhaps believe it was her conscience. He cleared his throat and tried to lighten the mood slightly "Well, at least we know you’re in no danger of becoming a Demon of Vanity. Those are definitely one of the most annoying of all creatures and the universe would yet again mourn another beautiful soul."
Bree, Fallen of Honesty? The insecurities…his mind made the connections once again. He had heard of her and how she had fallen because the Angel of Love she loved- Adam he believed his name was, had lusted after a woman, cheated with her and broke this fair Fallen’s heart and in doing so was thrown out of the Heavens and became a Demon of Lust. He couldn’t help but feel pity for Bree and anger over what that male had done to her, because it clearly affected the female’s self-esteem to a great extent. He had heard many stories about how heartbreak as well as loss was one of the most soul-destroying of emotions. He tried to not make it obvious in his face that he knew of her, he didn’t want to upset her when she seemed to be in a good mood.
"Samson, Samson…Corvus as I too adopted when I fell. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Bree." He introduced himself with a soft smile.
The Fallen snickered slightly at the man's crooked smile. Flowers were the one thing that kept Bree where she was. If she didn't have the florist's, she probably would have left Carford a year ago after her friends...no, friend was murdered. It'd been strange crossing paths with Brent again, but whatever. He wasn't dead, like she'd thought. She had to keep reminding herself of that.
"Well, it's exceedingly hard to make the impossible possible." she said, her words accompanied with a bright laugh. "I'd have to be pretty special to be able to do that. But, yes...thanks." She smiled, and nodded at him. He really seemed intent on making her feel good about herself, something which made her feel...touched. That he was going to that effort. For a minute, she even suspected that the little whisper in the back of her mind was his doing too, but... it was so quiet. It had to be her thinking that, didn't it?
She nodded at his next words. "I agree. Demons of Vanity are troublesome things. A lot of them lie compulsively too, which...isn't really good for me." She smiled again. That was why she never wanted to become a Demon. They were...peculiar, to say the least. And not peculiar in a fun way, oh no. Demons, or at least the ones Bree had met, were all...rather twisted. Besides...Adam was a Demon now.
Her smile faltered slightly at remembering Adam. It wasn't often she found herself thinking about him, but whenever she did, it brought a stab of sadness and hurt. Which was why she tried not to give him much thought. When she thought of him, she wondered where he was, if things had worked out with...Eve, If Eve was still alive. Humans were fragile beings, so she could never really be sure.
However, she shook her head free of those thoughts. She didn't really want to waste her time thinking about Adam. It only depressed her, and that was never good. She knew what could happen if she ever let how she felt rule her. And she didn't like the potential outcome, so she didn't think about what had happened. Or tried not to.
Samson. Samson...the Messenger Angel? Wait. Bree knew this story. Of the little girl who hadn't listened to his warning. That ignorance had led to her death. Something that Samson had blamed on himself. He'd left heaven because he felt unworthy. Bree couldn't help but feel sad for him. It wasn't his fault, but he didn't seem to have realised that. The little girl chose to ignore that voice. And she paid the price. It wasn't as if Samson had failed to warn her.
But she pushed those thoughts out of her mind, and gave Samson another warm smile. "Likewise, Samson." she said politely. She didn't really want to bring up his situation, nor the fact that she knew of him. He seemed so pleasant. She didn't want to be the one to ruin that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Is it really that hard? You make it seem so effortless” He smiled. “And so you must be ‘pretty special’” He added, his smile brightening slightly when she began to laugh. Even he couldn’t deny that laughter was a wonderful sound.
“All demons lie unfortunately…in fact most people lie. Which I’m sure is hard for you as a Fallen of Honesty…” Samson wasn’t sure what he’d do if he couldn’t lie or if something happened to him whenever he heard a lie. The world was full of liars…but he wasn’t much of an honest male either- sometimes lying was necessary.
Upon seeing her pretty smile falter his mind wandered to hers again and he managed to catch the reason behind it. Sadness and pain accompanied her thoughts of that fucking Cupid and the thought of the pain in her mind was so strong it managed to echo through to his mind and he felt a small bit of sadness and pain too. Which was where he pulled himself away from her mind completely, feeling people’s emotions from their mind and memories wasn’t something Samson enjoyed experiencing. It always made him almost care for them and he didn’t want to care for anyone…it made it so much easier to let go of people if you didn’t have feelings and an emotional connection with them. But then what happened next kind of surprised him for some reason, he could see the moment where she turned things around in her thoughts through her eyes because there was a sudden spark of strength and fight. It was enough to bring another smile to his face. Through his many years on Earth and even when he was still in the Heavens he had watched time and time again as humans, Fallen, Demons and Nephilim alike all gave up during hard times. It was quite depressing in some ways, but then, like now he would see the fighters- the survivors- rise up, refusing to let anyone- including themselves- keep them down…keep them from winning the ‘battle of life’. He internally rolled his eyes at the term, it sounded so…cheesy.
The small brief moment of recognition flashed in her eyes then. He knew she had fallen after him so that must have meant that word travelled through the Heavens, like how ‘gossip’ travelled here on Earth. The thought of Heaven being like Earth in that way was amusing because it reminded he had and given up everything he knew to fall to a darker, shittier version of Heaven, how fucking hilarious. He inwardly sighed and briefly wondered when he had started to become so cynical about life but then stopped down that train of thought because he knew exactly when that part of him had changed.
He was happy that Bree didn’t speak of her knowing of him because then he’d have to leave because he didn’t like talking about things in the past. His past was history not worth lingering thoughts on. He just looked at his fellow fallen then for a moment and the way she smiled at him warmly. She had a kind soul but one that was also a fighter of which he found rare on Earth even within Fallen…it was nice to witness but he knew life seemed to have a thing for devouring rare species which was tragic but unfortunately in his eyes true.
“So my dear, I’m sure you didn’t come here just to speak to me- although if you did I’d be very flattered if you had- but, I’m assuming since you said you are the town’s beautiful florist that you’ve come here for these flowers.” He smiled his crooked smile again. “Need any help?” He asked mostly because he had fuck all else to do and if he helped Bree, that’d mean he at least did something with his life today. Plus, he for some reason thought it amusing that she had started this small talk with him by asking if he needed her help.

This man seemed to be on an all-out misson to make Bree feel good, which actually brought a smile to her face that was even wider than the previous one. She couldn't get rid of it for some reason, even though she didn't believe the things he was saying to her. She just...didn't believe that she was what he was calling her. Beautiful and all that stuff. Even if she hadn't felt anything when he said it...she just didn't believe it.
"Well...erm...uh...it's easy if you don't realise you're doing it." she mumbled, an embarrassed smile tracing across her lips. "But...I dunno if I'm special in any way...just one more soul in an earth full of millions, am I right?" She gave the tiniest roll of her shoulders, and her eyes fell upon the daffodils in front of them once more. They had a strange beauty for such a peculiar shape, just one more thing she loved about them. They didn't care about what people thought about them, they went the way they wanted to. That is, if they were personified. Which is what Bree was doing.
She nodded slowly at his next sentiments, looking up again. "It is hard..." she admitted. "But it's something you get used to. You know, if you've been dealing with it for you're entire life...okay, it doesn't make it any easier, but...you get used to it." She gave another cursory shrug, and smiled like it didn't matter. Which it didn't really. It hurt her emotionally as well as physically, and gave her problems trusting people, but...that wasn't a problem for her. She understood that lying just came naturally to some people. Which was a shame, but there was nothing she could do about that.
She let her fingers dance up the stem of a daffodil once more, before pulling it out of the small black bucket in which it was being held. She loved them; surely other people would too. Maybe she could try selling some? Just a few wouldn't hurt, surely. It would be fun to try, she guessed. "Well, it'd be weird if I didn't come here for the flowers," she said with a slight snicker. "I don't normally come to the markets for them, but...I dunno...today was just too nice a day, y'know?"
She pegged that she was rambling a bit; something that she did an awful lot. She looked down at the flowers in her arms, which by this point she'd mixed with several other different plants that she thought would go well, muscari especially. The soft blue of that plant contrasted well with the bright yellow of the daffodils beautifully. She looked up when he offered help, though, and smiled for what felt like the hundredth time.
"Weeeeell...I don't want to bother you..." she said, a laugh threatening to invade her speech. She didn't want Samson to help because he felt obligated, because he wasn't. Maybe he'd just thought it'd been nice to offer? She didn't know, but she didn't mind. She could carry some things home. Maybe not everything, but that was why she had telekinesis, wasn't it?
