~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane smiled back at her. He didn't really want to leave. Not entirely. He had time before he needed to go back and bring all the things he bought to his Commander's quarters and go home. He placed all the bags on the table by the door and the flowers above it. "Alright then, I'm staying. Because I want to look around and I have to make sure that both of you don't end up killing each other. Which I highly doubt would happen but safety first. Pretend as if I'm not here." Shane said as he browsed on the other side of the shop.
The florist and the other man's anger were feeding him well enough. He was smiling to himself as he walked around. He just loved it when anger was around. He didn't have to worry about dinner now. Because he was about as full as a bear. He turned to look at her and smiled,
[/color] "Call me Shane. Sir makes mefeel like I'm at work." he said as he went back to browsing. The lilies looked very beautiful. It would look very well in his living room. Though he was a military man, his house was nothing like his profession. And side from his medals, certificates, and uniforms, his house was normal. If you call having a house on top of the water normal that is.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: Click Here // Tagged: Bree & Brent // Notes: Flowers For Sale?

Bree nodded slightly, Oh, heaven yes. They were going to have a conversation. She wanted to know what the heck had happened for that year that she thought he was dead. She didn't take being lied to very well, unsurprisingly. Not only did it hurt her physically, but also emotionally. How people thought she could be gullible enough to believe that what they were saying was the truth. ...Like Brent just had.
"I think I can live with that," she said, her voice emotionless, icy. "Just as long as you're honest, I think I'll manage." She narrowed her eyes slightly on the word "honest". It wasn't hostile, nor was it angry, just showed that she really meant it. If he dared try and lie to her again...Bree didn't even want to think about how she might react. And what kind of trouble that might get her into. She knew Brent could be dangerous. If she angered him too much or vice versa, one or both of them would end up half dead.
She smiled over at the man, nodding as she did. "M'kay. Shane. I'll remember." she said. "Seeing as we're giving out names, mine's Bree. And we'll just be in the back room, give me a shout if you need anything. I don't think we'll end up killing each other..." Her eyes flitted back to Brent. "But you can never be sure, right?"
She cleared her throat, and opened up the door to the back room. It was just as well that she always kept it as clean and presentable as the shop floor, wasn't it? She looked over at Brent, no longer glaring, still feeling a little bit of anger, but she was calm enough to remain civil. She wasn't as much angry as she was disappointed now. "After you, Brent," she said, and after he'd walked in, she closed the door.

There was no way this other demon was going to get to hear what Brent was about to tell Bree. It was private, like, really I'm-a-fucking-murder-and-I-scare-myself private. That wasn't exactly something he wanted some stranger that dared to weaken him, and probably Bree too, to know about him. Hell, it wasn't something he wanted anyone to know about him! That was why Brent had kept it to himself. Not to be one of those secretive, dick-ish, traitorous friends. Because he didn't want to be judged. Although he did still have some semblance of self-control in him or everyone would be dead by now.
Honesty wasn't Brent's forte. But, now, he knew he could lie as Bree would be able to tell. This was already going to be hard enough, he didn't want to complicate matters further by angering his old friend more. "Fine. But if anyone else," Brent gave Shane a pointed look, "ever hears a word of what I'm about to tell them then things won't be pretty, that's for sure."
Brent almost flinched. Oh, God, if only Bree knew that Brent would be perfectly capable of killing her if he was ticked off enough. That thought made him feel nauseous but he knew it wasn't an overstatement. He kept it to himself though and marched into the back room of Bree's shop, pausing for a fraction of a second as he walked past Shane to give him the nastiest glare he could muster up. Everything was just pissing him off. The disappointment on Bree's face, the guilt of what he'd done, this other demon here who just had to go and feed off Brent's rage.
"Right." Brent said firmly, turning on his heel to face Bree and his brows knitted together anxiously, "Where to start..."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane nodded in thanks. "Bree it is then. Please, take as long as you'd like. I shall see myself out if I shall need to leave. Pay no attention to me." Shane said with a smile as he looked away from her and took a quick glance at Brent, smirked, and went back to browsing. He was going to enjoy the anger of those two. Hmmmm.... Dinner is served.
Shane watched as the two left and went at the back of the store. He could tell that the walls were thin and even if he didn't want to listen, not entirely, he was going to hear a few things here and there. And knowing and examining the other demon, he was probably the first to scream or at the least raise his voice. Of how wonderful his afternoon was going to be. Shane stood by the lilies once again, admiring their beauty, awaiting the start of the conversation to start.

As soon as the door shut, Bree felt herself relax slightly. She didn't really have to hold back anymore, even if she was going to. Which she was, because she didn't really want anyone dead or half dead. And anyway, if someone were to end up in that condition, it would most likely be her. They were both equally strong magically, but he could stop her from using her powers. And then she would be screwed. So, she was going to stay calm. No matter what she heard, no matter what came out during this conversation, Bree was determined not to lose it.
"Where to start?" she asked, gesturing for him to sit down if he wanted, and sitting down herself. "Well...why not start at the beginning?" Her voice was no longer too quiet, too tranquil. She now sounded genuinely at ease, although she still wasn't quite looking Brent in the eye. She had so many questions, so many things that she needed to ask him, forcing their way up into her throat too quickly.
She swallowed. Why was this so damn hard? She'd been best friends with this guy for years before...before what happened. But now, they were standing in the ruins of what used to be their friendship. Yes, Brent had lied to her before what happened, but never had he ever told a lie as big as this one. And the fact that he hadn't even notified her, the fact that he'd hidden away and let her mourn two people instead of one...that ad felt like crap. And...he was a demon. How the heck had that happened?!
She cleared her throat, and met his eyes for the first time in what seemed like forever. The pure anger that radiated from those brown orbs...it didn't take Bree long to figure out that Brent was a Demon of Wrath. Okay. That was out of the way. He was fuelled by anger. One more reason for Bree to stay calm. She wasn't going to give him anything to go from.
"So...the beginning..." she mumbled, absent mindedly biting her lip. "Roughly where would that be?

And he didn't want to talk about that, he just couldn't but Brent knew that he'd have to. This was Bree, his best friend. She seemed to have calmed down now too, Brent could no longer feel the anger radiating off her in thick, glorious waves. That was both a good and bad thing.
He sat himself down, trying to look back at Bree though he was finding it a challenge. Brent soon gave up and let his gaze slip to the floor. There was no way he'd be able to look at the fallen while telling her this. It would have to be the truth too, he didn't really want to hurt her again. But he knew exactly where the beginning was here. He just could bring himself to say it. Brent knew that he had to start some when, Bree deserved to know this.
Picking at a bit of loose thread on the sleeve of his pink blazer, Brent opened his mouth to speak though he still found himself unsure of what to say. He was just going to have to go with it...
"I guess... it started when... when they..." Brent's voice had started to tremble, there was no way he was going to say that. He just hoped that Bree realised what he meant, "All I could see was th-their... their b-b-bodies. I-it's just... I d-don't expect you to understand b-but e-everything just..." he trailed off, moving slightly to hold his head in his hands. Brent had no idea how he was supposed to explain it, this was turning out to be a whole lot more difficult than he had first anticipated. With an onslaught of vicious memories attacking his mind now too, Brent was finding this a whole lot harder.
How did you explain that something that had happened to you fucked with your head, turned your world upside down, warped you into a murderer and a demon and basically took away all the happiness from your life, without sounding like you weren't completely out of your mind? Because Brent hadn't reached that stage of insanity. Not quite.
"Everything just got fucked up, including my head, and I possibly murdered a few innocent bystanders and forgot what it was like to be happy and was haunted by my own memories and got turned into a demon." Brent managed to get it all out in one rushed sentence, the strength he found to do it being fuelled by his own fresh rage at what had happened. Anger had always been Brent's defensive mechanism, now more than ever. If ever he was upset, he usually covered it up with anger. Though, saying that, it wasn't always the case. Sometimes it was just one of those days and Brent just gave in to himself and spent the night a grizzling, drunk mess. "Tada." he ended his kind-of-story with a brief, sarcastic flourish of his hands.

Bree couldn't help but feel guilty at seeing her best friend stuggle to speak. God, had she done that? It was likely. Very likely, actually. Why did she have to put him on the spot like that? That was a bit unfair of her. But she needed answers, and this was the way to get them. She needed to know what the hell had happened in the space of the year that Bree had thought Brent had been dead for. She just...needed to know. She was tired of being the last to know things, and this was no exception.
"Look," she said quietly. "Don't...rush yourself. Take it easy, yeah?" She gave him a sort of half smile, even though she knew he wasn't looking at her. Didn't matter. She wouldn't freak out at all. She'd remain completely, externally calm no matter what she was feeling inside.
The smile dropped a Brent began to speak, and she nodded. She understood what he meant all too well; she'd actually had to identify them because...well, Brent wasn't there to do it. She'd had to. And...she got what he meant perfectly. She found herself actually walking down that hallway again. That hallway. God, no. Not now. Just...don't, Bree. Not now, 'kay? she told herself, and turned to listen to what Brent had to say.
And...well. Shit. What she heard. Damn. Brent had...Brent had murdered people? Her eyes widened a little at this, and her breathing quickened the slightest bit. The room started to spin, and she gripped onto her chair to steady herself. Wow. Just wow. She put her head in her hands for a second, just trying to process what he'd just said. She hadn't...expected that at all. That was just...completely Anti-Brent. Brent would never have one that before...before. That was it. The before. But that? That had been the after. And now...now she almost understood. Almost.
She surprised herself then. She scooted forward in her chair until their shoes were almost touching, and put a gentle, comforting hand on his knee. Despite how angry she could tell he was now. She wasn't angry. Just...just a bit shocked. "Hey." she said gently. "Look at me." When he did, she gave a soft, sad smile. "I-It's okay. Yeah? It's just...it's fine. God, but why didn't you just...y'know, tell me?" She shook her head a little bit. "I wouldn't have freaked...much. I might've a little, but...not much."
She looked at him properly then, a new thought sparking in her mind. Why the hell she thought it, she didn't know. But damn, why?! That wasn't...she couldn't...could she? See, Bree was pretty sure she knew everything she needed to know about Brent just then, but...he didn't know...about her. What had happened and stuff like that. She couldn't tell him. It seemed so stupid and frivolous now, but...no. Not...not yet. She couldn't.
"Actually, I can see why you kept it from me." she said. "God, I would've kept it from me." She laughed lightly, but went serious again, yet still smiling gently. We all have secrets, Brent. All of us." She nodded convincingly. He just needed to know that she really didn't mind. She just wanted him to know that he was still her best friend, and always would be if she had anything to do with it.

He knew it wasn't just one of those things that could be brushed off and soon forgotten. He'd taken people's lives without a second thought, he'd been too full of grief and fury to stop himself. Brent hadn't had another clue as to what else he could've done then. He'd just focused on taking out his rage on whoever was closest. Still, Brent didn't find himself feeling any remorse. It wasn't as if he'd taken his time with it. It could've been a lot worse. Brent still thought he had some remnants of a heart left even if he barely ever put them to good use.
When feeling Bree's hand rest gently on his knee, Brent did as she said and looked up to see that she was closer than before. Well, he hadn't been expecting this at all. If anything, Brent had expecting Bree to be edging towards the door, not moving closer towards him. It made him feel worse for not telling her anything but it was a huge relief that Bree was still here. Maybe they'd get their friendship back after all?
"Thanks for... understanding."

Bree just smiled softly. This was what she remembered. This was the way that they'd been with each other before. Open. Bree preferred it this way. She didn't like having things kept from her, and was pretty sure Brent didn't like having things kept from him. Well. To a certain extent. And that reminded her...that actually, they weren't being completely open with each other. She still had some spilling to do.
But...but she didn't have to do that now, did she? It hadn't come up, and it would sound pretty irrelevant if she burst into some random story about her life before Earth, her life on Earth for the year that Brent had missed. Yeah, that wouldn't have a point. He hadn't asked about it. She didn't have to say anything, and probably would never have to unless it came up again. Which she hoped it wouldn't doubted it would.
She shook her head at him, grinning. "What isn't there to understand?" she snickered softly. "I definitely understand that you had a secret. I also completely understand that everyone has secrets. And I understand it just...it doesn't matter to me. 'Kay? Even I have secrets. It's just something we all have to deal with. And...I'm okay with yours. I don't mind at all."
She hadn't quite realised that, in using herself as an example, she'd opened up the window for some questions. Questions that she wouldn't want to answer. But...that didn't matter. What mattered right now was that Brent understood that she'd always be there. And, from the tiny smile pulling at the demon's lips, she could tell that he most probably did. That was enough for her. She didn't worry about what could come of this conversation; just the fact that she was there for him was enough for the both of them.

He had no idea what exactly had happened in Bree's life although it was probably very different from what he'd been through. Brent had hidden himself away and not spoken to Bree at all. That must've hurt, especially with her thinking that he was dead too. But, still, here she was and Brent had been forgiven. He couldn't help feeling so grateful now. His best friend hadn't completely given up on him.
"Yeah... so..." Brent sighed, wanting to ask Bree what secrets she must have but not knowing if it was really his place to ask... Well, considering what he'd just told her, he could give it a go, right? "'s your turn then... if you have secrets too."

It actually felt amazing to Bree that she had a friend who could trust her with something as major as this. This was huge, an obvious secret to keep from people. So what if Bree had pressed him for it? He'd still told her. He hadn't really had to say anything if he hadn't wanted to. Which he probably hadn't. Who would want to go around and tell everyone that they're a murderer? Bree wouldn't. And it was kind of easy to see why.
She still had that nag in her mind that said that she should tell him about her secrets, just to even out the playing field. But it was completely irrelevant now. They were just moving past this whole topic, and probably about to go onto something new to discuss. She thought this because Brent was now obviously looking for words, to keep the conversation going. Yeah, that was it.
As he spoke, a confused smile tugged at Bree's lips. Her turn? Hmm...what did that mean? It wasn't as if he'd-- the smile dropped off her face slightly at hearing what he'd said properly. If she had secrets. Her turn if she had secrets. Okay. Well. It was pretty clear to her what that meant now. Her turn...to tell him things about her that she'd only just admitted to herself. About how she was stupid enough to...do what she had done. About how heaven had treated her. The reason she fell. The reason she fell. That reason.
"Well," she managed to get out. "It's not...I mean, I wasn't...uh...I didn't..." Why was this so damn difficult? She had her friend; her best friend who'd just admitted that he was a murderer. Why was admitting that she was an idiot so hard? It was the truth. And the truth was the worst Bree could do.
She sighed in slight frustration, and looked at Brent, crystal blue eyes swimming with questions. "Fine." she said quietly, fiddling with a lock of her hair. She couldn't really say no. After all, Brent told her his. Now it was her turn to tell him hers. No matter what the consequences, no matter how hard it would be. ]"What do you want to know that I never told you?"

Bree seemed to be having just as much difficulty as Brent had been previously in getting out what he was trying to stay. Now it was clear to him that she had secrets too, far more so than before. He wasn't going to push too hard for them though, Brent didn't know how bad these secrets his best friend harboured were but they weren't just going to be little things or she surely would've shared them with him already.
"How am I supposed to know what you haven't told me, eh?" he quirked a brow, the ghost of a smirk on his pink lips. Brent wasn't exactly good at attempting to be nice or a good friend. He never had been, though it had been a whole load easier when he'd been a Fallen. Now every smile took too much effort whilst each glare almost made him feel stronger, however strange that sounded. He was a Demon of Wrath after all, he couldn't be expected to be some happy-go-lucky guy, especially when his past was taken into consideration. The point was, he was making an effort now; however awkward it made him feel.

Bree really wasn't sure how she was going to put everything she had to say. It was all forcing itself up way too quickly for Bree to handle, forming a lump in her throat that made her feel slightly queasy. It was hard enough admitting that, yes, she'd been stupid enough to let something like that happen to her, and that, no, she wasn't immune. She'd have to admit things to her friend that she'd only recently admitted to herself.
A small half smile tugged at her lips at Brent's words, and she looked down at her lap, letting her hair swing forward. "I...I guess...meh, I don't know." She laughed nervously at herself, not looking up. She really was trying to look up. But she just couldn't bring herself to look at Brent right now. Because...what happened to her...it sounded so frivolous and common compared to what happened to him. But he wanted to know, so...she couldn't really refuse, after he'd told her what happened to him.
"Right." she said, with a shaky sigh. "Well, if I don't know where to start, then I'll go from the beginning. And...well...that's..." Oh crap, she hadn't even said anything yet, and she was already starting to feel her eyes prick. Nope. Nuh uh. That wasn't happening. She wasn't going to waste her time crying over this. She was just going to tell Brent what had happened, and try to forget that awful, messy page in the book of her life.
But...talking about it made it so much more...real to her. What had happened. Why she'd left heaven. Why she'd willingly given up such a beautiful home. And...well...the reason she'd left was more painful than the fall itself. It was just...she couldn't deal with it. She'd have to, though. It was...everything was just so...maybe she'd find it easier if she talked about it?
Still not daring to look up from her lap (just in case she cried at any point), she began to speak. "It kind of started when...w-when...I was, y'know, up there." She gave a vague wave of her hand to demonstrate her point and kept going. "I was...uh...kinda shy. Didn't really talk to anyone unless they talked to me first."
Okay, Easy part out of the way. Now for the fun part. Note the sarcasm. "Then, there was A...Ada...some other angel," she continued, unable to say Adam's name without getting flooded with awful, wistful memories. "And I...well...I was an idiot? Let something happen that should never of happened? Maybe?"
Her eyes were now fixed firmly on her lap, and she shuffled slightly, uncomfortable. Suddenly, nothing felt right. She shouldn't have to be having this conversation; she should have just left better off alone, shouldn't she? But no, she had to make a scene and...off topic. She hadn't really explained fully enough, had she? How had Brent told her again? One big rush. Maybe...she could try that.
"Basically," she said quickly, "I may or may not have ended up falling in love with this other angel, he left me for some human, and...here we are." It came out in a monotone, though there were tears in her eyes and her voice was shaking slightly. She still hadn't looked up. She couldn't. She'd just let him process it, and react accordingly.

Brent didn't bother telling Bree to look at him or anything like that... he knew how uncomfortable she had to be feeling right now, it was pretty obvious. It was good for people to get these things off their chests, right? Besides, it wasn't like Brent was forcing anything out of his Fallen friend anyway. He'd never do that. Well, unless he had a very good reason to.
Brent didn't really know what he was supposed to say or how he was going to comfort Bree when this was clearly upsetting her. He listened though, since he was the one who'd asked her about things in the first place. What she was saying though... it was completely different than what had happened to Brent but still damaging. He dreaded to think how much that had hurt her, especially with her being so shy back then. Brent knew that if he ever met this guy that had broken his best friend's heart, well, they were going to die for sure.
Feeling strangely sentimental, Brent shuffled his chair round before wrapping his arms around Bree. It was probably a little sad how that had been his first hug in... way too long. But hugs weren't actually as bad as Brent had somehow remembered them to be. Bree looked like she needed one too, it wasn't just Brent being randomly affectionate. "If I ever find him, Bree, I promise he'll very soon be a dead man."

Bree had shifted her gaze slightly, but in no way was she looking up. No, she had simply moved her eyes from her lap down to the tiled floor. She could feel her eyes becoming heavy with water, her vision becoming blurry. Oh, god, where were tissues when she needed them? On the other side of the room. And, yes, she could use her mind to get them, but then she'd have to look up and...she just couldn't do that. There was no way.
Why did it still get to her, after all these years? It was nothing, really, just her own stupidity. She shouldn't be crying over something that had been her fault. Maybe there was some part of her that was saying that it wasn't her fault; she didn't know. If there was, it was incredibly muted. She highly doubted there was, though, because it had been her fault. All of it. She quietly sniffed, and wiped her eyes furiously with the back of her hand. Crying was not an option. Crying weakened her, burdened others...she couldn't take that route. She was better than that, wasn't she?
Apparently not.
She heard a slight scuffling sound as Brent moved his chair. Well, okay, she hadn't been expecting that. She'd expected it to have become relatively awkward, since love was a sensitive topic for the both of them. But, no, he was moving closer. That in itself was rather comforting, and slowed the tears a tiny bit. Well. The tears that were coming were slowed, anyway. They were easier to brush off now, anyway. This happened sometimes. It was good to let out a few tears every now and again, but when Bree did, it would never be for too long. She'd probably just end up--
Oh, god. No. No no no no no. What. Oh, god. She was just beginning to get a grip on herself. She was just beginning to pull herself back together. But...the hug. Damn. No. She actually felt herself tense slightly with surprise before relaxing into it. Well, to say that she hadn't been expecting that at all would be the understatement of the century. This wasn't...oh man. No, this wasn't fair. Was he trying to make her cry?
She could feel her eyes pricking again, burning with tears that hadn't made their way to the surface before. This hadn't happened for far too long. She'd really missed it, and had only just realised how much. It was so weird...and yet...it seemed to fill some kind of void that she didn't realise she had. Maybe she hadn't been as okay as she convinced herself she'd been.
And then, Brent's words...those whispered words...Bree couldn't help but let one tear out. Oh gosh, she wanted to cry so much. That was just...okay, what he was saying wasn't pleasant, granted. But, in the context...he would never know how much that meant to her. Ever. She was even having trouble responding. "Th-Thank you..." she whispered. "Thank you so much."
She brought a hand to her eye and wiped away the one tear that was still slowly trailing there, and chuckled weakly. "Oh, god, this is so stupid," she said. "Why didn't we just...try this whole 'being open with each other' thing before?"
