~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane had sent a letter to Bree informing her that he has urgent matters that he needed to talk with her. After the Jade forest , Shane was more careful now. He thought things and plans more thoroughly than he used to. And it was just frustrating him a bit that the run in had to occur. It just goes to show that the first break out was going to happen soon. But Shane was smirking to himself. Oooohhh... Then anger and the hatred that he was going to be feeding from. He licked him lips and looked out the window.
Shane paced back and forth, she was running late. Truly, civilians had no respect for time. Time. Shane laughed. He could freeze the moment, kill all the soldiers in Alderres and come back and win. But that was going to weaken him for a long time. He had only been able to freeze time for a few moments, not for a whole day. It might even weaken him long enough for Alderres to regroup and launch an attack. If that happened, Carford might not stand much of a chance. But Shane was a good strategist. And he knew what he needed to do.

Bree was seriously doubting whether or not to go to this guys house. She was still in bed when she heard the letterbox go; she didn't really want to have to move. So she'd used her powers to get the letter, which was why Telekinesis was so damn useful. But now, she was kind of wishing she'd left it where it was on the doormat. She didn't trust the man that had sent it at all, being blatantly honest.
It had been a few days since the incident in the forest, and Bree was still feeling a bit shaken up about it. What the heck was a Carford soldier doing acting like an Alderres one? That was not only a lie, but completely messed up! That could...well...okay, granted, that could get them some kind of advantage in the war. But that was crazy dangerous! ...But he was a soldier. That would probably mean that he was used to danger. Where would this put her though, if the information was that important?
Sighing, she quickly changed and dashed out of the door to Shane's place. That was the address on the letter, anyway. Well, then it had to be Shane's, because she would have felt that something was off if it had been a lie. Which she hadn't, so...yeah.
She knocked on the door, knowing that she was a little late, but that didn't matter. At least she was there, right? "Shane?" she called out, loud enough for him to hear her, but not loud enough to attract too much attention. "Shane, it's me, Bree. Open up."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane was in deep thought when he heard a knock on his door. He left the deck and went to open the door. He was glad that she was there now. He had to explain the events that had transpired the days prior in case she ends up speaking about the encounter to someone else. Shane needed to be careful or his position was at stake. He smiled as he ushered her in. "Glad that you finally came, Bree. Come on i." he said as he led her to the living room where his medals, photos and military certification hanged on the walls.
He ushered her to a seat and sat opposite her. He took a deep breath and looked straight at her. No lies this time. "I'm sure your wondering why I called you here. And I know you already know half the reason why. The run in at Jade forest a few days ago was not what I expected. It was strange that Alex hand wandered too far from Alderres alone. But what you need to know is why I acted the why I did." he told her. This might be a short talk if she didn't ask. But she was a female so questions were expected and Shane was going to answer anything she would ask.

Bree sighed with relief when she was sure she hadn't been given a phony adress, and nodded as Shane ushered her inside. "Oh, gosh, I'm sorry I'm late," she said, the same polite tone in her voice that she'd used in the florist's that day. Except this tone was little more familiar, a little more curious. She wanted to know what was happening. Simple as that.
She looked around Shane's house, and had to admit that she was impressed. It all seemed very proud and grand, but that was to be expected. Shane was in the army. He was almost one hundred percent certain to have so much army stuff around. It was everywhere. His medals and certificates and stuff. Bree knew she wouldn't display hers so proudly if she ever had/got any, but she supposed that it was his choice.
She nodded gratefully as she was shown a chair, and sat down carefully. Shane was sat opposite her, his eyes telling her that there would be no lies in this conversation. Good. Lies weren't going to help anything, now were they? She'd heard enough lies to last her a lifetime. Which, for Bree, was an eternity. She was just sick and tired of people thinking that they could lie to her.
She nodded at Shane's words. "Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a few questions," she told him. Hah. A few. She had a little more than a few. Who was that kid? How did Shane know him? Why did the boy think that Shane was from Alderres when he was a Carford soldier? Ugh, just...so many questions."But I'll start with the obvious. Who was that boy, and how did you know him?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ And the question had began before he could explain. He nodded as he acknowledged the questions. "His name is Alexander Jay Torres, a healer of Alderres. And I know him due to the fact that I ran into him on my first day of Alderres scouting." Shane began his explanation. "After a hot morning of looking around, I thought it was best to have hidden myself in the Alderres forest. That was where I met him first. He was smoking and was hiding it. He said he was quitting but he was failing at it." Shane continued.
Then he leaned back on his armchair, "Back at Jade forest I told you that he thought I was an Alderres soldier. I have not told him the truth in fear that he might have caused my scouting mission to fail. I did not tell him that I was in the army. Not entirely. I simply told him that I have been sent from one place to another. And I have been so it was no lie. Then my superiors read my report on my return and said to continue my ways. I have three people at Alderres who I can use as cover now." he told her as he recalled Mack and Ackley, specially Ackley.

Alexander Jay Torres. Well, okay. That was his name. The boy's name. And he was a healer? Well. If Bree was completely honest, she hadn't exactly expected that. She'd thought that healers were supposed to be compassionate? And he hadn't seemed the nicest person in the world. Hah. Quite the opposite, actually. He seemed prejudiced and spiteful. Not exactly fitting things for healers to be, in Bree's opinion.
She nodded slowly as Shane gave her details, and things slowly got clearer. Sure, she wouldn't have lied to the kid if she were in Shane's position, but nyeh. She couldn't lie even if she wanted to. Besides, Shane was a demon. Demon's had slightly more dulled consciences than other beings, mainly because they'd embraced their darker sides. Bree my not have wanted that for herself, but she knew that some were comfortable that way. It was a personal choice. She wasn't going to judge.
"Okay. So let me get this straight." she said. "The boy's name is Alexander. He's a healer. You met him in the Alderres forest after you'd been out on a walk. And you lied to preserve your cover?" She could understand his actions. But who were the other two people? "Can I ask who the other two are? Or...or is that against the rules? And how didn't Alexander guess who you were from what you were wearing?" She leaned forward slightly in curiosity. "I wouldn't know myself, but I'm told that the difference between Carford uniforms and Alderres uniforms are quite distinctive. Aren't they?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane smiled, "Yes, i lied to preserve my cover. If I got caught, my superiors will give me hell when I do get back. Being second in command of Carford's army puts a lot of pressure one me sometimes. I'm expected to be perfect, to not make mistakes. And as for the other two, one is names Mackenzie Martin, learning to have a higher rank. And the other, Ackley Lynch. Also studying in Alderres' military school." he told her as he looked out the window for a few seconds then back at her.
Shane smiled a little more. "Alex has never seen me in uniform. That is why he does not have a clue of who I really am. He saw me in regular clothes. I wear them when I am on scouting missions and a errands to other cities. But in Carford, I am always in uniform." he explained. He was rather proud of his accomplishments. He turned to look at his wall of fame. He smiled as he recalled how he got all those medals and certificates. It took him a while but time was what he had in his hands. A hell lot of time.

Bree knew that, as soon as the words escaped her lips, she shouldn't have asked the other peoples' names. That information was confidential; she knew she wouldn't be happy if some stranger knew her name and she didn't know theirs. Still, she had no idea what these two boys (she assumed that they were boys from their names) looked like, so she wouldn't know who they were unless one just so happened to run into her or vice versa.
She nodded, faster now, as everything slowly became clear. "Ah. Riiiiiight." she said, properly understanding now. Okay, so he'd lied to preserve cover whilst still gaining intelligence. That...she couldn't say that it was acceptable, nor could she condone it, but it seemed a little easier to understand why he'd done it now. She knew it was the truth; she hadn't felt anything that was off-color, but the day was still young. Still, this couldn't help but make her trust him just a little more. She sill didn't trust him completely. She didn't trust anyone completely after the things that she'd been through, but...a little bit more than she had trusted him before.
She saw as he turned to look at his wall, and at his slow reminiscent smile, a grin crept across her face. She got up to stand next to him and gestured around the wall with a wave of her arm. It was full of medals and certificates, only to be expected of a highly ranked officer such as Shane was. They all looked pretty impressive. "So," she said quietly, smiling. "I've got a bit of extra time on my hands this morning...want to talk about how you got all these?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane turned away from the wall and looked at her. "Since you know who I really am and what I do, and you saw me with a civilian from the opposing side, you are to remain silent and not breath a word of it to anyone. Not even that guy who you are friends with. No one is allowed to know that you saw me interacting with an Alderres civilian and no one is to know that I went to Alderres for that matter. If I am a spy from Carford, we might never know if Alderres has sent a spy of their own." He told her as he went back to sit down.
Shane sighed. "I am sorry to have placed you in a position where you have to remain silent. No one must know where you have been and who you have run into. No matter who approaches you, be it a Carford police, soldier or a high ranking officer, you are never to tell them what you saw that day and what had transpired then. If the other officers find out of my ways, word will be twisted and my superiors might doubt my credibility. And that is the last thing I want to happen." He told her straight forward.

Bree nodded along with Shane's words. Yes, she agreed. It would be better to keep quiet about the things that had happened. Not that she really wanted to remember them, anyway. It was a lot of information to process in one sitting. And....and her little friend? Brent, did he mean? Pah. Bree almost snorted at the idea. She thought she could keep this one little thing from him after all the things he'd failed to tell her. Not that he even needed to know. No one needed to know. At all.
"I agree," she told him, a smile on her face. "No one really needs to know, do they? And who do I have to talk to about this? Brent? No. As you probably know, he kept some pretty huge stuff from me, so...this makes us even, I guess." She sat back down, clasping her hands in her lap and looking down at them. That wasn't really something to talk about with Shane; he was still just an acquaintance. Not a trusted friend yet.
She looked up as he spoke again. And her eyes went wide. Well, damn. She really couldn't tell anyone. He'd mentioned...police. Army people. Would it really get that serious if...if this got out? And what if she was asked? She couldn't lie. Physically couldn't. She'd either have to tell the truth or remain silent. The latter being what Shane had just told her to do. But what would happen to her if she refused to give information to higher authorities? Would she be arrested? Hurt? She didn't know.
Her teeth immediately went to her lip, and nibbled incessantly. "B-But...Shane..." she stuttered. "Y-You do realise that I c-can't lie, don't you? And...what then? What if I'm asked? And if I d-don't say anything in response? What happens t-to me then?" She couldn't help it; she was starting to freak out a little now. She just wanted to know what she was getting herself into before she helped Shane out. She'd help him either way; just wanted to make sure that the price wasn't too high.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane knew that he was being too careful. But it was better to be safe than sorry. "I know that lying will be a bit hard for you so I am proposing that if ever... Worse comes to worse, you should come and stay here. With me. It'll give the others a warning to not bother you. We can make them think that you really do live with me. You don't have to lie. You won't have to answer them if words gets out that you live with me." Shane suggested. It was a crazy idea and he knew it. But there was no other thing he could think of as of the moment.
Shane leaned back on his chair, trying to find another way to make sure that Bree was safe. And no one would question her at all. "The reason beside this is because you have no idea if someone saw you come out of the Jade forest looking like you had a bad run in which you actually had. And if someone did see you, most of the officers knew that I was being set back to Alderres that day. They might question you and wonder what you were doing in the Jade forest." he added. And if he remembered correctly, which he did, the Jade forest was out of bounds to local Carford citizens. It was to avoid losing people in ambushes and sneaky attacks.

Bree could feel herself getting more and more worried about what could happen to her, the wave of anxiety eating at her gut. He hadn't answered the question, which just made her more nervous. If she kept things...what if she was tortured for information? Or killed for knowing too much? Or...shit, she didn't know if she was going to be able to do it. But...that wasn't her. Bree rarely thought of herself, it just wasn't in her nature to do so. Shane needed the help, and if Bree had to be the one to provide it, then so be it. No matter what the cost.
She nodded slowly at his next words. "O-Okay..." she mumbled, looking at the floor. Oh, gosh, living here? Was it really that serious? It had to be, if he was suggesting it. So that people wouldn't bother her, he'd said. She certainly didn't want that, if it was the kind of 'bothering' that she thought it was. She wouldn't have to lie. Not that she could, even if she had to. It was just physically impossible. She'd have to keep shit from people, but...she wouldn't have to lie. Keeping secrets wasn't a bad thing, was it? She didn't think so. She had secrets other than this one.
But...oh god. What he said next actually made Bree freeze up for a second. She had a bad run in? That was bad? Damn. She certainly hadn't thought it too dangerous. Sure the kid had been from Alderres, but...but he wasn't really any problem, was he? Oh, god, what if he was? What if Bree had merely misjudged him. Damn, that wasn't good. Not at all.
"Sh-Shane..." she said, shaking her head to clear her mind of those thoughts, and looking him straight in the eye. "Y-you didn't...y'know...answer my question. Wh-what happens if I d-don't say anything and am asked? What if I just stay q-quiet?" She didn't know whether she wanted to hear the reply or not, but either way, she had to know.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane could feel the fear coming from her. An he couldn't blame her. Not at all. He got her into this mess by being there in the first place. What if he didn't show himself? But knowing Alex he'd do something crazy. He was able to know a few things about Alexander Torres in a few short days. And shane knew better than to doubt his own actions. "No one will force you to answer to anything. They will ask but you are not liable to answer them. You can choose to remain quiet and walk away. They will never dare to question or torture you. I give you my word." Shane told her as he bowed to her a little.
Things were starting to become a bit messy. It was an obvious sign of the beginning of the first battle. Bree running into Alex. It could have been worse. She could have raninto Mackenzie and it would have been more horrible. "You should count yourself lucky that it was just Alex you ran into. If his boyfriend Mackenzie Martin was there, things could have went from bad to worse. It would have been a two against one and Mack is a student of Alderres' military school. From now on you keep away from jade forest and never enter it alone." he told her. This was just a pre-cautionary step.

Bree breathed a sigh of relief. Okay, so she wouldn't be in any kind of trouble if she didn't want to say anything. She did have the right to remain silent, which, for Bree, was a good right to have. If she didn't remain silent, she'd have to tell the truth and, as Shane said, that could get a lot of people into trouble. And she didn't want any trouble. She just wanted to live peacefully, without any problems or danger. Kind of unlikely with where she was living now, though. Ah well. Although Bree was an intelligent woman, she was not a logical one.
"Oh...Oh-'Kay..." she murmured faintly, mildly relieved at the fact that she would not be pressed for information. She could give it on her own terms, and she felt much more comfortable with the idea now that she knew she had a choice. She was still a bit iffy with the idea of moving into the house with Shane, but that didn't matter. She understood why it was happening. For safety's sake. She still didn't trust him in the slightest, but he hadn't lied to her yet. And that was good enough for her.
She nodded at the next bit of advice. Avoid the Jade Forest. She agreed with this entirely. She wasn't sure if she'd be going back there for a while, that was for certain? Another run in like that? Hah. Nope. She was pretty strong, powers wise, but she kind of failed in every other area. And what if someone she met had power negation? And was stronger? Well. Then Bree would be screwed. Well and truly. And then...god only knew what would happen.
"Y-yeah...alright..." she said quietly, in a subdued tone. "I promise I won't go there alone. If at all. It's...it's dangerous." She looked down at her hands, tracing the ovals of her nails with one gentle finger. She could have got herself into some really deep trouble had Shane not been there. "Th-thank you, Shane," she stuttered. "Y'know...for w-warning me about all this. And lettin' me s-stay here."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane nodded and smiled at her. "Stop thanking me Bree. This is just as much about you as much as this is about me. This is win-win situation for us. You have safety and I know that no one will dare ask you of anything. So my methods are still a secret." he told her with a smile. Then he thought about it, he turned serious. "I take my position seriously, Bree. And though my methods may seem despicable, its been working for me and got me where I am. I will not lie to you whistle your here with me. It will not build anything but distrust and disloyalty. You have my word that you will be kept safe here." he said as he stood up and went to his kitchen.
Then Shane came back with two glasses of iced tea. He gave one to Bree. He was smiling now. "I should have offered you a drink the moment you came here. Where are my manners? My apologies, Bree." he said as he placed her glass in front of her. He had a coaster below the glass to make sure the glass won't make a mess on his glass table. He was a bit if a clean freak that way. Which was contrary to who and what he is. Yet he still kept with what he always did. No need to change what he is just because there were other people.
