Okay, so if Natesa was being honest, she had not done a single thing all afternoon. Which was so unlike her; normally she was up and everywhere. But not today. Today, after just having unpacked that morning, she was ready to pass out. Well, she wasn't, but nyeh. She was a little drained, and so she'd just lounged in her pajamas, carrying Stripy around with her. Stripy was her cuddly giraffe; the last gift that Natesa's mother had ever given her. He meant a lot to her.
At that moment, she was curled up in a ball on the sofa, cuddling Stripy tightly and watching whatever crap was in the TV. Mostly cooking shows. Ugh. Natesa narrowed her eyes at the screen. She liked to cook, but she did it her own way. Presentation when cooking didn't mean shit. It just had to taste nice. And Natesa was okay with that. She could cook just fine. No one had died yet. In fact, quite the opposite. But anyway, presentation just...straightened up the food. Made it look...neat. And orderly. And boring.
"Pssh. They have no idea what they're talking about." she huffed to no one in particular, although it would probably have been Stripy. Stripy always listened to what she had to say. He was very attentive. And he didn't seem to mind that Natesa wasn't. He'd just listen to her; he didn't need to be listened to. And that suited them both.
Stripy was pretty much the only one that really knew everything about Natesa, as he was the only one who she'd really told everything to. How she had the ADHD. There were people who knew that, but it was just her father. How she'd seen her mother die. Her father knew that too. But the one thing that only she and Stripy knew was how scared she was to die.
Her train of thought abruptly came to a stop when there was a sharp knock at the door, thankfully. The young Nephilim hadn't liked where her thoughts had been headed. She grinned widely. "Oh, look Stripy!" she said, pointing the toy in her lap in the general direction of the door. "Something to do!" She leapt up, suddenly not feeling so tired, and hopped/skipped/danced over to the door wondering just who might be there.

✥✥✥✥✥ To say that Helo was nervous was a huge understatement. He was absolutely terrified-- what if Natesa didn't like him? What if she decided that she didn't want anything to do with the brother who had abandoned her mother? What if he was never given the chance to make up for his mistakes? All these thoughts were running rampant in Helo's mind, creating chaos and making it increasingly tempting to just turn and leave, and never ever see his half-sister for the course of his entire life. But... no. No, he couldn't do that; that would be unfair to her, and it would be unfair to him, too. Helo wasn't just going to give up his chance at a wonderful relationship like this.
Steeling himself for the worst, he squeezed his eyes shut and knocked on the door, praying that his sister wouldn't slam the door in his face or anything. And then the door opened, revealing a teenage-ish female who was completely decked out in blue. Ugh, blue. Helo shook his head disapprovingly; blue was the worst colour in the world.
Then, he looked more closely at the girl. Despite her shoddy appearance, she did bear a certain resemblance to his mother. Helo took a deep breath. Well, here goes nothing...
"Excuse me, are you... Natesa Mayjor?" he tried, grimacing at how unnatural his voice sounded. Damnit, why did he have to fuck up at such a time? "My name's Helo Madely, and this is of the utmost importance."

Natesa swung the door open in one, fluid movement of her arm to find a man standing there. Well. Natesa liked him already. His outfit was awesome. Natesa did like her clothes a lot. That was what she wanted to do when she grew up if she could. Fashion design. She had all her old sketchbooks littering a drawer in her room. Mad designs, such as one for some kind of female mad hatter. What? Don't judge, it's not becoming. Natesa would have worn it. And that was all that mattered. If she would wear it, then surely someone else would too.
She shook her head a little to clear her mind, which had gone off on yet another wild tangent, and peered up at the man's face for the first time. He was quite young, probably a few years older than Natesa, and appeared very...well...straight laced. She furrowed her brow. Gosh, what was he doing at Natesa's place? This place was the complete opposite of straight laced. Her father had bought the cabin fully furnished, but that hadn't stopped Natesa from moving things around and making it more irregular. It looked a lot more fun.
Gah. Off topic again. Back to the guy. He looked...nervous, for some odd reason. Almost petrified. Well, Natesa wasn't that bad, was she? How could he have heard of her already? Oh gosh, maybe he was a spy or something. He knew her name, and looked like he knew her. Or maybe he was a ninja! Ninjas knew everything, and no one quite knew how. Well, except the ninjas, of course. But anyway. By now her eyes were wide and there was a grin spread on her face.
"That's me. Natesa Mayjor at your service." She saluted, and chuckled softly, still clutching Stripy to her side. She looked up at the stranger once again. "But in all seriousness, Natesa's a bit of a mouthful, huh? You can call me whatever. Most people just call me Nattie."
She nodded at the guy, and made a waving sort of gesture with her arm, motioning for him to come inside. It looked chilly on that drab Tuesday afternoon. "Come in...Helo?" She narrowed her eyes in slight uncertainty, and nodded. Yup. That was what he'd said his name was, wasn't it? She hopped/skipped/danced back to the living room and shut off the TV, motioning for him to follow and sit down someplace.
"So, Helo," she said, flopping down onto the couch herself. "You know who I am, or at least seem to, and yet I don't remember meeting you before. So tell me. What did I do this time?"
It was pretty much always like this back home. Neighbours would call around sometimes because Natesa had done shit again. Sometimes she'd TP'd their houses, others it would be a broken pipe because she'd been trying to swing around on it. Once, it's actually been her shooting at people with a paintball gun. Damnit, that had been fun. She snickered quietly at the memory, but shook her head and turned back to Helo. "Is this because of the car? Because I can totally clean it...you know what? Why don't you just tell me?"

✥✥✥✥✥ Oh, Helo was so screwed. What... what on Earth was wrong with his sister? Trying to supress a sigh, he walked to the most normal couch that he could see, shoved a pile of clothes off it, and sat down. Then he bit his lip, staring at his nails and letting out a sigh before starting.
"Natesa..." he started, crossing his legs. "Okay, let's just get this over and done with; I'm your half-brother, Natesa." And the entire thing was said while Helo stared intently at his manicured nails, trying his very best not to make eye contact with his half-sister. "I know that this might be rather hard for you to process right now, so if you'd like me to leave," he said, standing up and brushing some lint off his suit.
Then he took a namecard out of his vest pocket and laid it on a table. "If you want to contact me at a later date, that's my namecard. It has my personal details, workspace, everything." And then he started to head out of the house, but there was this one comment that Natesa had made that worried him a little bit. "And if you've done something to someone's car, you should tell me what you did, because I might be able to fix it."
Internally he already had his suspiscions; maybe Natesa splashed paint all over someone's car or something. Ugh, he really hoped that the car wasn't too expensive; otherwise, it'd be really hard to help Natesa out of her mess. Assuming that she wouldn't mind him helping.

Natesa, studied the man with narrowed eyes. She was trying to gather as much about this guy, Helo, as she possibly could. From the way he sat, from the way he refused to make eye contact. Well, he seemed really flighty and unfocused. There was something bothering him. And it seemed to be really important. That was what he'd said, wasn't it? Utmost importance? Probably something to do with...oh, god, this was about the car! Oops, she'd really have to fix that. She couldn't just-
What. The. Fuck.
Natesa blinked a few times. Uh, what? Did he just say...oh, right. This was a joke. Well, it was a pretty good one, Natesa had to admit. This guy was a great actor. He just seemed so amazingly in-character. Really nervy, jumpy, blah blah blah. Maybe it was, like, a door-to-door prank thing! Damn, and it seemed to work so well, too. Maybe Natesa should try door-to-door pranking sometime! It looked like a lot of fun. Well, the incident with the car had been fun too, but nyeh. This would be harmless fun.
She was pretty much just lost in her own little dream world, staring at the floor with wide brown eyes. No smile right now, though. Because there was that little nag in the back of her mind, that little nag that told her that this wasn't a prank, that this was real. She highly doubted it was. Surely she would have heard something about a half brother before if this was real, anyway. But, oh god, just something about it...
Her fears were pretty much confirmed when Helo pushed a small piece of white card toward her. On it, she found his name and number, his workplace, everything. Oh god. Oh god. He wouldn't have given her that if he was a phony. Heck, this was...real. It was fricking real. A dizzying wave of anxiety seeped into her body. It crushed her chest in a way she wouldn't have thought possible. Just...damn.
She finally looked up just as Helo was leaving. Wait. Leaving? What? No! This was her...brother...and he was leaving again?! "Wait. Just...hold on a second." she said, a little too quietly, a little too calmly. This was a huge deal! Natesa didn't take family lightly; she'd known how important family ever since that day when she was four years old.
She placed a hand to her head, trying to think this through. "I think...I think that I may have heard you incorrectly. You just said that you were my...half-brother. Didn't you?" She'd totally ignored the question about the car; she'd explain that at a more appropriate time.

✥✥✥✥✥ Okay, what? Helo swivelled around on the ball of his foot when he heard Natesa quietly tell him to hold on. Was-- was anyone actually able to process so much information instantly? Had his genius gene been from his mother's side, instead of his father's like he had suspected? Or perhaps his sister just wanted him to wait so that she could throw a water balloon in his face or something; she seemed like that kind of person. Maybe she wanted him to sit down and explain the entire thing to her or... well, Helo didn't know what, but he kind of had to stay, anyway. Just to know whether to expect a call or not, and whether he had the slightest chance of making up with his sister.
He continued standing at the door, not really wanting to go back to the couch if he was only going to get chased out again. Then Natesa asked if she had heard wrongly, and damnit, why was this entire thing so awkward? And more importantly, how was he going to explain that she had only been born because their mother cheated on his father with hers? Was she going to react well to the fact that their mother cheated? If it had been Helo, he would probably chase him out of the house and refuse to listen to any more. It was kind of hard to imagine that the person whom they had grown up with, their guardian and role model, was... well, someone like that. Someone who could do something as disgusting as cheating on their partner, which caused an entire family to be ripped apart and she still had the bloody guts to continue on and start a new family.
... so Helo wasn't fully over the entire mum-cheated-divorced-slept around-had a kid-thing. Mummy issues; but they were perfectly reasonable. "You didn't hear anything wrongly," Helo told her softly, regaining some of his composure from just now but not fully. "I'm your half-brother, Helo James Madely; I'm 4 years older than you are and I was the child that your mother abandoned to have you." Shit. Shit, no, he did not just say that-- that was never meant to escape his lips! Oh, bloody hell, now he was completely frakking screwed and nothing would ever dig him out of this mess. He wouldn't be surprised if Natesa never wanted to talk to him again or something-- Natesa was never meant to know that their mother cheated before. Cheating was, in Helo's mind, the worst thing that someone could do to a kid (possibly other than killing one, or abusing one). Cheating broke up the kid's family at too young an age, exposed them to a lot of bullshit and, more often than not, made them grow up too quickly.
"I'm-- I'm sorry. I'll be going now," he stammered (being completely unlike himself, damnit; Helo James Madely never stuttered. He wasn't a fool, he was an amazing person and if he kept stuttering, people would know he was nervous. He was a doctor, he couldn't let people know when he was nervous!). Oh well, at least it had been a good idea to keep loitering around the door.

Okay, so right now, Natesa wasn't sure what was going on at all. Was what Helo saying really the truth, or was she just being gullible? She hoped it was the former, or else she was going to look like an idiot. A huge idiot at that. Sure, the ADHD didn't do her any favors, but Natesa liked to think that she was quite intelligent when she could concentrate. Speaking of the ADHD, that certainly wasn't helping. It was causing all these thoughts were running through her mind too quickly, making her feel dizzy.
With Natesa having been so young when her mother died, she didn't really remember much about her. She just remembered this amazing saint of a woman who gave up everything to raise her. She hadn't realised that Helo had been part of this "everything", that he'd been her mother's child too, that he was even a part of Natesa's quirky family. And...and to hear those next words that Helo said...ouch.
He was the other child that her mother...abandoned...for her?! Natesa immediately felt a surge of rage. Not toward Helo, who looked like he was regretting saying that. No, it was toward the mother that she'd loved so dearly. Belinda Mayjor had had another child...left him to have Natesa...and never even mentioned him once? Natesa doubted that Belinda had even told her father, or else her father would have told her. So her father didn't know. He didn't know anything either. Oh, damn, this was a lot to take in.
She stood up slowly. "What...what are you sorry for?" she murmured. Nothing had been his fault. It had all been...Belinda. Yep, Natesa didn't even want to call Belinda her mother after this. It...just...sucked. Had it been Natesa in Helo's position, she would have been absolutely furious. How had Helo stayed so calm? How? "If anyone should be sorry, I think...I think it should be me, y'know?"
She twirled a loose strand of her hair around her finger, and bit her lip, not making direct eye contact with Helo. She couldn't look at him; it had been her fault Belinda left him. She was responsible. And she had never even known; never been told. About her brother. That was just...stupid.
"I guess...I guess I'm y'know, sorry about the whole...Belinda leaving. I didn't know anything..." Okay, now this was starting to get awkward. She sighed in frustration, frowning. Why couldn't she get this across? "Look, do you want to start over?" she asked him. She hoped that, maybe, starting over would make this so much easier.

✥✥✥✥✥ When Helo heard Natesa ask him if he wanted to start over, Helo really had to... resist the urge to thank the heavens above for giving him a second chance with his sister. He knew perfectly well that he had messed up majorly with the first impressions bit and everything, after all of his screwed-up speech (to think that he imagined himself to have had gotten over that problem in his formative years). "Starting over? Yeah, that-- that sounds good," he said, letting out a deep breath that he didn't know that he'd been holding. "H--hey. I'm Helo Madely, your half-brother."
Despite his completely stupid behaviour, he hoped that Natesa wouldn't judge him. "I'm... I guess I should introduce myself, then. I'm 21 this year, and I work in the hospital as a doctor. I hate the colour blue and I've been told that I'm rather obsessive about my appearance; also, I've been looking for you ever since I found out about your existence." He said all of that in a huge chunk, and to be honest he'd be surprised if Natesa caught any of that, but he was-- he felt a lot better after having introduced himself to at his sister. "I would... I would be honoured if you let me be a part of your life from now on."
Hopefully-- yeah, Helo thought that was a much better retake-first impression that the original one. Maybe Nattie would actually want to be his sister now~

Natesa nodded slowly. Okay, right. Now, if they were starting over, at least she would have something to go from rather than looking like a complete and utter idiot. Well, okay, sometimes she was used to looking stupid. But that was beside the point, wasn't it? It was the principle of looking stupid. It was just...stupid, for lack of a better word. And that certainly wasn't a pleasant thing to be. Natesa knew this all too well from years of being the "weird girl with a freaky disorder".
She shook that thought out of her mind, cursing her inability to concentrate, and listened to what Helo was telling her. He was 21 this year. Okay, not that old then. Doctor? Impressive. Didn't like the color blue? ...Not so impressive. Next to green, that was Natesa's favorite color. Rather obsessive about his appearance? Well, okay then. That explained quite a bit, actually. But no matter. And...and the last thing...well, that actually brought a soft smile to Natesa's face.
He'd been looking for her. Someone had actually been looking for her. Normally, it was exactly the opposite. They knew where Natesa was, just...didn't necessarily want her to be there. Sometimes, she was a bit of a liberty, granted. She was pretty much always in the way, and she was extremely hard to get rid of. Once you'd met Natesa, you knew you'd met her. She was practically always there. But bleh. Anyway. Back to what Helo was saying. Well. That touched Natesa in a way that she wouldn't have thought possible.
"Well then," she said quietly, smiling and nibbling her lip lightly. She didn't know quite what to do here, so she decided that, hey, wouldn't it be a great idea to do what Helo had done and introduce herself properly? "If you're going to be part of my life, you should probably know more about me too. My name is Natesa Mayjor, and I am 17 years old. I don't have a job. However, I'm taking a home fashion design course. I really, really don't like the color pink, as long as we're sharing our least favorite colors. And, I don't know if this was already obvious to you, what with you being a doctor and all, but I have ADHD. So, y'know, sorry in advance for some of the stunts I pull."
Sure, she didn't ever go around sharing that last fact with some random stranger at the drop of a hat, but hey. This was her brother. A relative. That was okay, she figured that he should know. It would explain a lot. Oh, and...did she have to say something cute now? Made sense. Helo had. About being honored to be in her life. Well, she was going to give him that honor, wasn't she?
"Well, you're in luck, then." she said, grinning at him. "I kind of always wanted a brother or sister. So, yeah. Welcome to my life, I guess." She snickered lightly. Was that cute enough? Okay, maybe not. But that was what she felt like. She felt like Helo did, or at least would eventually, mean something to her and her life.

✥✥✥✥✥ Unable to help himself, Helo let a wry grin spread across his face when Natesa started introducing herself, too. It seemed like this would be just fine. 17 years old, unemployed... yeah, Helo knew that. Taking a home fashion design course? Well, he supposed that one learned something new every day. And Natesa having ADHD? Well, he'd suspected, but wasn't sure; so it was a good thing that Natesa told him beforehand.
"Do you take medicine for your ADHD? I know some people do," he told his sister, thinking carefully. If she did, he could probably get the medicine for her after work; if not, that was... well, better, because it would mean that her condition wasn't that serious. "And, well, little siblings are supposed to pull stunts, and it's the elder silbling's responsibility to clean the messes up. So I'm sorry for having let you take responsibility for your own messes up till now?" Then he grinned. Ah, well. This... was going to be his life from now on, wasn't it? Cleaning up after his little sister, having a nice, normal family... yup, it sounded nice. But, well, there were some things that he definitely needed to know.
For example, he probably had to know if his sister had any stalkers/enemies in her life, and who were her friends... and, of course, most importantly, if she had a significant other. "Er, is there anyone in your life that you have to warn or tell me about?" he tried, hoping that it came across as subtle (but probably kind of failing). Damnit, he was a lot better at being subtle and sensitive with patients. With his sister, everything was just kind of... messed up. Verbal diahorrea.

Natesa was relieved when Helo didn't seem to mind too much about her ADHD. Well, he was a doctor, he probably wouldn't care. And the fact that they'd never even met before kind of reinforced that, in some crazy way that Natesa couldn't be bothered to find. Maybe it was the fact that he'd been wanting to find her; he'd take what he could get. Natesa thought that sounded logical.
She gave him a sheepish grin when he asked about her meds. Yes, she had meds...but that didn't necessarily mean that she took them or anything. She even doubted there exact location; whether she'd left them back in Bedford with her father or if they were in a forgotten cupboard somewhere in her house. She honestly didn't know. But, hey, either way, she wasn't taking them. Maybe that was an explanation fr her reckless behavior lately.
"I do take them...but I don't?" she snickered. "Oops." Sure, she'd probably take them if she had time, but between her fashion design courses and her paintballing and everything else, Natesa was finding herself with less and less time. And, as said, she didn't know where they were. And could she be bothered to look? That question could answer itself.
Her brow furrowed slightly at Helo's next question. Anyone that he should be warned or told about? What did he mean by that? Sure, Alderres had a few crazies, but surely there was nothing to...oh. She got it now. He wanted to know if she'd gotten on anyone's bad side (or extraordinarily good side). She laughed, and shook her head with a dismissive flap of her hand.
"No, don't think so," she chuckled. "You're fine, I dun' need to warn you about anyone. Well, there's a few weirdos in Alderres, but nothing major. And no, no one in relation to me. I've been here for ten minutes." Well, okay, maybe more than that, but that was what it felt like to her.

✥✥✥✥✥ Helo frowned at Natesa when she revealed she didn't take her meds, disapproving. "Natesa, if the doctor prescribed the medication, it's for a reason, right?" he told her, slightly reprimanding. Well, if he was to be Natesa's older brother now, he was going to have to be all responsible and stuffs (not that he wasn't before, but still). "And I know that a lot of people don't think they have time to take medicine but really, it's just a few pills. Do you know where your medicine is?" Because somehow, Helo had a feeling that Natesa might have misplaced hers somewhere along the way.
Then she assured him that Helo had no one to worry about, and thank God because ready as he might be to become a big brother (not very ready at all), he definitely wasn't ready for some punk to be trying to steal his newfound little sister away from him all the time. "That's good." he said, sighing in relief. "Boyfriends are nothing but trouble, anyways." Then he grinned. Hopefully Natesa felt the same way, because he really didn't ever want to have to deal with the overprotective-big-brother-and-frightened-for-his-life-boyfriend thing.
Speaking of boyfriends, he was suddenly struck with a thought. Would Natesa mind-- he knew that there were quite a few homophobic people nowadays, and if Natesa ever found out that he did like men, would she-- could she be one of those homophobes? Or perhaps was he too quick to assume that Natesa was straight, too, because maybe she was lesbian or bisexual? And how was he going to confront this issue, anyway? He wasn't going to just blurt out a random 'I'm gay' in the middle of their conversation. That would make things even more awkward than they already were.
