Bree stared up at the house in front of her, her suitcase in one hand, her guitar slung over her back. The presence of these items reminded her that this would be permanent. She wouldn't be going back to her house tonight, like she normally would be. She was staying here.
And, even though she knew why this was happening, it still made her feel so miserable. She liked her house just fine. She didn't really need the protection, did she? She was just a florist. It was highly unlikely that a florist would know anything that could give Carford an advantage in the war. It wasn't like she was some incredible military mastermind behind the doors of her little shop, was it? Nope.
Also, her depression wasn't helping at all. So, as far as her emotions went, she wasn't feeling at all well. But...she didn't really have a choice in the matter. She'd have to stay, or be at risk. She didn't really feel like it would be wise to put herself in danger. So she did as she was told, and ended up standing in front of Shanes house, dithering. Dithering. Why? Why didn't she just go?
So she did. She walked up to the front door, and took a deep breath. Here goes. She squeezed her eyes shut and knocked on the door, Hoping, praying that there was some kind of mistake.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane was busy preparing dinner. He had finished taking down all the awards on the walls and replaced it with a painting he had done not too long ago. He was busy preparing the chicken for the dinner that he had promised Bree a few days ago. He was nearly done when a knock on the door broke the silence of the house. Only the water was the music he had listened to for the last three hours. He washed his hands and wiped them dry. "Be right there, Bree. Hold on..." he said as he knew it was her and no one unexpected. He had already the copy of keys for the house that he was going to give her after dinner. He opened the door and smiled at her.
"Hey Bree... Come on in." he said as he took the suitcase she had with her. He placed it by the foot of the stairs. "Come in Bree. You're just in time for dinner. Every things nearly finished. Leave your other things in the living room and come into the dining room. Make yourself at home. You'll be staying here for a little while anyway." he said as he went back to the kitchen. The microwave dinged and it signaled that his mash potatoes were ready. The gravy was now ready as well. He took two plates and placed a good amount of serving on each and went to the dining room. "Have a seat and dinner is served." he said as he placed the plate of food he had prepared for them both.

Bree immediately spread a wide smile on her face. The door had opened rather quickly, and although Shane had told her he was going to be there in a few seconds, she hadn't quite been expecting him to get there as quickly as he did. She didn't want to be looking mopey and miserable when he got to the door, because that would lead to "What's wrong?" and she wasn't really sure she wanted to burden Shane with the answer. She'd just leave it be.
"Hi, Shane," she greeted warmly, stepping inside the house she would be staying in for a "while" as Shane put it. A while. She hoped that, by a "while", he meant a few weeks at most. She wouldn't stay longer than a month. That seemed to be outstaying her welcome, and she was sure that all the chaos would have died down a bit by then anyway. But you could never be sure. It probably would. Either way, she wouldn't be staying for more than a month.
She did as he said and slipped the guitar off of her back. It was quite a heavy instrument, considering that it was only a guitar. She sighed as she looked at it, propped up against the living room wall. It was just a very real reminder of what was to happen in the weeks to come. She knew that wherever her guitar stayed, she stayed as well, so...yeah. It was going to be kind of permanent.
She couldn't really look at it anymore. It was a bit too much, considering that her emotions were a little bit out that day. So, she just shook her head at it, and went into the dining room. It smelled really good in there, she had to admit. She was kind of hungry, and the smells that wafted out of the kitchen were making her just that little bit hungrier.
When Shane came out, and placed a plate of food in front of her, her eyes widened in surprise. Wow. It looked so...fancy. He didn't go to all that trouble, did he? Well, he certainly didn't have to. Which was another thing she found quite sweet about him. He did all these things for her, and never really expected anything in return.
"Thanks, Shane, it looks awesome." she said gratefully, smiling up at him from where she was sat. She picked up a fork, and carefully took a small amount from the plate in front of her. "Thanks again for letting me stay here, too. I'll try and keep out of the way as much as I can, if you like."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane smiled as Bree began to pick the food he gave her. "Oh no, you don't have to be like that Bree. You don't have to do anything. Just feel at home and keep safe. That'll be enough help for me." he told her as he smiled at her before taking a bite of his chicken. He was no chef but because of being around for a few hundred years, he was able to learn how to cook at one point after he jumped down from Heaven. It was a great way to pose as a human as well. "You're room is on the second floor, just across the hall from mine. If you need anything, you can always knock on my door. And please don't be shy if you do need anything." he told her.
"And I'll be giving you a set of keys for the front door, your bedroom, and for the backdoor. Aside from that, you can do pretty much anything. You should try hanging out on the desk during the sunset. It's really nice and the air is cool and nice. I'll make dinner for us when I'm here and not out of scouting duty. But if I'm away, you can help yourself to whatever there is on the fridge." he told her and smiled. he was trying to make this as comfortable as possible. Shane was going to make sure that both their lives won't have to be under the watchful eyes of his commander. That was the last thing Shane wanted for Bree. She was a civilian and didn't need all this drama. From what he had heard, she had enough of it to last her a lifetime.

Bree nodded along to Shane's words, although she was internally questioning every word. Feel at home? How could she when this wasn't home? Home was her apartment. Her tiny, cramped apartment on the edge of Carford. It may have been a little small, but it was pretty, and she'd worked hard to make it that way. She'd left it behind. That was her home, and she'd left it behind. So how was she supposed to feel at home here?
Of course, she didn't voice these concerns. So she merely nodded, smiling as she did so. "It's okay," she said. "I'm in the shop most days, anyway. From 11 until 7:30, so...I won't be here much. Just on Sundays and evenings and all that." She paused for a moment to eat something. It was so good, Shane was an amazing cook.
"Ah, this is real good, Shane!" she said, snickering a little at how corny she sounded. Sure, Bree had learned to cook, she'd had to, but she didn't think she could cook as amazingly well as Shane could. Maybe that was a new thing to try to get better at. She liked that idea, gave her something to do other than music when she wasn't working.
She nodded at the information he gave her next. Okay. Well, Bree was terrible with keys (she always somehow managed to lose them or forget them someplace), so she'd have to find a definite place to keep those. The only keys that she hadn't lost yet were, surprisingly, her keys to the shop. But anyway. Keys. Front, Back, Her room. That was easy enough to remember. She could manage that.
"Okay. Well, thanks then." she laughed. She thanked people way too much, she decided. Every other word from her seemed to be thanks or praise. Sometimes, it got her hurt or in trouble. But that was just who she was. She couldn't help that, could she?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane was glad but he could feel hesitation from her. Well, he couldn't really blame her. This was going to get some getting use to. for the next few days that it. This was going to be his first time to be living with anyone since he took human form. And the atmosphere was getting depressing. If it were anger, he would have welcomed it, but this was not what he fed from. And he didn't like it. His home was power free. He didn't like having to use his powers or be the Shane he was when he was outside and walking the streets of Carford. He didn't even want to be the Shane that walked the streets of Alderres. Because even that Shane was a liar. And lying wasn't going to be good for Bree. And he didn't want any mistrust within his own home. And Shane knew she had to know. So he looked at her seriously.
"Bree, this willbe the first time since I left Heaven to be staying with someone else. And in this place, I want it to be different. I am not the Shane of Carford. Not even the Shane of Alderres. I'm me. And mistrust have never set foot inside this home. If there is something bothering you, please voice them out so we both have clear communication between us. I'm trying to make this whole thing as comfortable as I possibly can, for the both of us. I hope you can help me by being and open to a few things like I am being now. This will take a little getting use to but we have to make this work for us to walk out of this ordeal in one piece and sane as we entered it. Or should I say this situation we were shove into? Let's try to get through this whole thing without having to lie and keep secrets. Can we do that?" he asked her as sincerely as Shane possibly could.

Bree nodded along with Shane's words. Okay, it was the first time since heaven that he'd lived with anyone else. Right. Well, that was to be expected, she supposed. It wasn't like it would be easy adjusting to living alone after the open space of heaven. But he had, and now he had to adjust to living with someone again. That would definitely not be easy. At all. It just couldn't be easy after living alone for so long.
Well, considering he was a demon, she assumed it had been a long time. Who knew, maybe he was like her and was still relatively new to Earth. But hey. Considering he'd had the time to get himself into the position of General in the army...yeah, he would have had to have been on Earth longer than her. Quite a bit longer than her, actually.
"Sure, I can do the entire 'no lies' thing," she said, with a shrug. "Being a Fallen of Honesty...I don't know if you realised before, but that means I physically can't lie." She looked back down at her plate for a moment. "And it hurts when other people do it. So...yeah, no lies would be better."
She nodded. She'd had enough lies and stuff to last her forever. It had just....so many lies had been told throughout the time she'd been alive, and it was just...sad. Horrible. All that junk. No one really got that it hurt her until they'd lied to her continuously, as well, which was just awful. That had been what happened with Brent, at first.
She felt herself begin to fall into a daydream, so she shook her head clear of images of the past before it took her back to that one recurring daydream that was more like a nightmare. She turned back to Shane, and smiled. "You'll generally know when something's up with me without me even having to say anything," she chuckled. "I'm pretty transparent when it comes to my emotions, so...keeping secrets won't really be a huge problem."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane sighed. There goes the 'be subtle' plan. He placed his fork down and turn to look at Bree, "Alright then, since you say that you'll be transparent with me, will you tell me why you were a bit hesitant when you came here? While I was telling you things, you seem to be a bit.. Hmmm... Shall I say, a bit uncertain when I mentioned that you try to feel at home." he said and sighed. True that it was a bit of a stretch for them to have to settle immediately as soon as they got together. "Bree, I can already tell there is still something bothering you, will you tell what it is?" he asked. Shane was asking this to make things bearable for them.
He didn't know what else he could do to make things better for you. "Bree, is there anything I can do to make things better for you?" he asked her. This was the only thing Shane knew he had to ask to know what he could do for her.

Bree felt her heartbeat dramatically increase in speed. She could actually feel it thump against her ribcage. Wait. What? How...How much was Shane asking that he tell her? She didn't have to give him details, did she? Oh, god, she hoped not. That would not be easy for her at all. She couldn't do that at all. She could be vague. She just had to be honest. Vagueness was better than dishonesty. Dishonesty...was a physical impossibility. Vagueness was fairly easy. She could do that.
She gave a wave of her hand. "Well," she began, "I'm just a little uncertain because this is the first time I've lived with someone else since heaven, as well. And the fact that...y'know...that this place, it's nice, but it's...not mine? I'm not sure." She looked down at her lap. "I've just had a few...negative experiences when it comes to trusting others because of...reasons...so living with someone else will take some getting used to, I guess. But I should be okay, eventually, it's just that...yeah. I may or may not have trust issues?"
It took quite a lot for Bree to be able to admit that. Because normally, when she admitted that, people asked why she had the problems, and then...and then she'd have to share some other awful secrets that she really, really didn't want to have to share. They were just...horrible. Awful ghost images of her past that she would do anything to forget. Just being able to forget everything...be a clean slate...that would be amazing.
"No, honestly, I'll be fine soon," she told Shane when he asked if he could do anything to make this easier. "I'll get used to it, and then I'll feel better when I do. Don't worry, I'm just..." She began to nibble her lip slightly as she looked up at him. "I guess I'm just having one of my bad days, y'know? Doesn't matter, I have these all the time. No need to worry yourself about me." She nodded to reinforce her point. She didn't need sympathy or help; that would probably just make things worse.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane sighed, this was truly something he had to fix. "Bree, you don't have to tell me any secrets. I have my own and you have yours. We can live in the same house without having to share anything we want to keep for ourselves. And trust is something we can both work with. I need to trust you too keep whatever you saw in the forest to yourself. You on the other hand can choose not to trust me with anything. If it makes you feel any better, we can work out a plan to make sure that we don't have to be in each others presence when we both are in the house. I just don't want tension to be here. No mistrust. No lies. No deceptions. And since your a Fallen, you'll know when I'm lying or not. I want this to work to keep you safe and to keep my position." he told her. This was as honest as Shane can be. And he didn't know why he had to tell her the truth. though he could kill her himself but it would cause suspicion in town. Brent would suspect him because of their last encounter. So the next option was to protect her.
If he could keep her safe, that in exchange, she would keep her mouth close. Shane's methods were vile and unorthodox. Not to mention too cruel and emotionally demented. But if its a sure way to get the job done, then, he was gone to make sure that he was going to do everything he could to get what he needs and wants. He was going to use everything he had to do it too. "Tell me what your thinking Bree. Not all of it. Just the part were it involves me, the secret, and moving in. The rest I can live well without knowing." he told her with a soft smile.

Bree blinked incredulously. Damn, was that the impression she had given? That she didn't want to be in the house at the same time as him? Oh, god, no! That sounded so...so horrible of her. She couldn't have sounded like she meant that, surely. It was just...oh, god. No. She hadn't meant that at all! She just had a few problems with trust since the whole "Adam left you for a human" thing. That wasn't what she'd meant. She'd just meat that it'd take time to get used to.
"Oh, gosh, is that what it sounded like?" she said, her eyes wide and searching at how purely awful that was. "No, that wasn't what I meant. I'm sorry if it came across that way. You can trust me just fine with not telling anyone about this, I'm kind of trying to forget about it myself."
She looked down at her plate again. "I was just warning you that I might not trust you and stuff straight away. Like, I'll find it hard to tell you stuff, but...I'll get used to it. I didn't mean that I didn't want to be in the house at the same time as you." She started fiddling with her hair, twirling a strand of it around her finger. She still couldn't believe she'd said what she had. It had just sounded so...rude.
She looked up at him again as he spoke next, and nodded. She figured that it would work to keep her safe, and then she told herself that there shouldn't be any trust problems. She knew that Shane was just doing all this for her own safety and his credibility, so it was win-win. But he'd just asked her to tell him a few things. Things she wasn't really sure she wanted to tell him, but had to. Besides, the soft smile he gave her encouraged her slightly.
She took a deep breath. "Okay," she began, and cleared her throat. "One thing you should know is that...I have depression. That's part of the reason why I'm a bit uncertain; I'm having one of my bad days. But no matter. And then, I'll probably take a while to adapt. But I think that's all I'll need to tell you." She shifted uncomfortably in her chair, her eyes once more falling into her lap. It was a bit awkward for her, having to admit all that, but it didn't matter. It had all been necessary.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane smiled as she spoke. "Well, that was nice to hear. Thank you Bree. Like I said, you don't have to trust me. And it didn't really come out that way, not entirely. I thought that you really didn't like to see my face since I dragged you into this mess by accident." Shane said as he took back his fork and began to finish his mash potatoes before they get cold. He smiled at her, "Now that we got that clear, we can finish dinner and I can show you the rest of the house." he said as she took a bite of his chicken. This was working well now and he hoped that it was going to be good.
After Shane finished his meal, he stood up and went to the living room to fetch the keys he had ordered for Bree. He then came back and gave them to her. "Each key has already a name as the head so that you wouldn't have to guess which key if for which door. Front for the front door, Room for your bedroom and Back for the back door." he said as he took his plate and went to the kitchen to get the dessert he had made earlier. "I hope you still have room for dessert. I made Ice Cream Sandwiches. I hope you'll like it." he said as he laid a plate in front of her before he went back to his seat and took a bite of his own. "You know, if we really try, i think we can make this whole thing work." he said, positively. This was just Shane. Home Shane.

Bree sighed with relief, and smiled. Well, she had to admit, she felt better now that she'd gotten that off of her chest. But the smile still wasn't quite a real one. It was still partially a mask. She hadn't been feeling good all day, though, so it wasn't expected of her to instantly feel amazing, was it? Nope. Not at all. Still, the smile wasn't all fake. There was the warmth of genuine relief and optimism shining through that smile. He hadn't taken offence, and that was really good.
"No, I didn't mean that," she confirmed. "I don't mind about this whole situation. Besides, it wasn't all your fault. I guess I should really pay more attention to city boundaries." She snickered lightly, and turned back to her plate to finish her meal. Once she had, Shane was out in the hallway, and he returned with three silver keys. Okay. Each key had a tag on it. Front. Back. Bedroom. Wow, that had been easier than she'd thought. She could totally remember that!
"Ooh, thanks Shane," she said, laughing some. "I think I may find these useful." She momentarily hopped out of her chair, holding up her index finger, indicating to Shane that she'd be no more than one minute. She walked through to the living room, the spring once again returning to her steps, as she found her leather jacket. She reached into the pocket, pulled out the keys to the florist, and attached the three keys to the keyring.
She figured that that would be a wise decision. She had never lost her florist keys, they were the only set of keys she'd never lost. So if she had those keys on there as well, she would always know where they were. That seemed like a logical idea. It was great.
She walked back into the dining room, and took her seat just as Shane was returning with two ice cream sandwiches. Bree was a sucker for ice cream, she had to admit. She loved it. And the ice cream sandwiches...looked just amazing. She smiled as he laid her plate in front of her. "Thanks, Shane," she said, and picked up her spoon. She placed a small amount in her mouth, and nodded along with Shane's words. "Yeah. I think we can, too." she said, giving a placid smile. It won't be all that bad living with Shane, she thought, will it? No, it wouldn't, in her opinion. Well, she hoped it wouldn't.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Shane was glad that she liked the dessert and that she was willing to make the arrangement work. Bree wasn't going to be in the house and Shane wasn't either. He was at work like her. The only time they would actually see each other is at night when they got home. When Shane was able to go home as well. This was already looking well for both of them. No need for them to compromise for each other's comfort. Then Shane remembered that tomorrow, Saturday, Ackley was going to come over. That was one task he was already ready for. But Bree had to know about it if she was going to close early by coincidence. She might come home while Ackley was still around and it might not be a good thing if they see each other because Bree doesn't look like she was a military personnel nor does she look like a special operations agent like he was. It was better to be safe than sorry.
Shane looked up at her, "Bree, what time will you be home tomorrow? Because I'm having someone over here as work." he asked as he took a small bite of his dessert. He was going to have to work around her schedule. No need for him to make her compromise for his work.

Bree was just starting to ease a little. She was more relaxed than she had been when she arrived. Sure, it wasn't home. It would never be home. But it was the closest she was going to get for a while, so she was going to make te best of a bad situation. She was Bree Ripsen, and that was exactly what Bree Ripsen was good at. Making the bad look as good as possible. It was her specialty. Her optimism was what kept her life bearable.
She looked up at Shane's question. Well, what did what time she was coming home have to do with...oh. Right. He was having someone over. And...yeah, seeing as she didn't exactly look like military personnel or whatever, she couldn't really be around. It would arouse suspicions, could end up with things being blown out of proportion, and could land people into a lot of trouble. She didn't really want the drama that could ensue; she'd had enough of that to last her several life times. Which, of course, she had, but that wasn't the point.
"Well," she said, "I'll be down at the shop tomorrow, normal times. I'm not closing early, but I'll have to do inventory, so if anything, I'll be home later than normal. About...8? So, yeah. It'll be nothing out of the ordinary." She shrugged casually, and took a spoonful of the ice cream sandwich in front of her.
"It's okay, Shane, y'know?" she said, before she realised that he probably didn't know what she was talking about. "You don't have to work around me. Just...y'know, business as usual. You don't have to take what my schedule into account." She nodded at her words. It was true; she really didn't mind.
