He had hoped his actions and vague words would convey the message so he wouldn't actually have to do it himself. But it seemed Dane was either unable or unwilling to see the truth. Mori stared at the hand on his side, looking a bit broken. "This is difficult to say," he murmured. The angel sighed and looked up at him.
"Dane...at some point, while you have been here, I seem to have developed some strong feelings for you. Romantic feelings." He flushed. "I of course don't expect you to say anything. I know you don't have those sorts of feelings, and I feel bad for hiding this from you for so long, especially considering...well, the sleeping situation, for one."
Had he ruined everything now? "I hope you stay, though I understand if you're uncomfortable with that. I can keep out of your way."

Dane listened to what Moriel was saying carefully. No matter how much it seemed obvious to him now, he had to say he was thoroughly shocked. The grip he had on Mori loosened and his hand dropped while he was talking. How could he have been so fucking stupid. It was... obvious. So fucking obvious that he wasn't sure how it hadn't hit him in the fucking face before. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Thinking about everything. All of the little things that made so much sense now that he wasn't sure how he could have missed them.
Then he thought about his side of it. Everything that had happened. How... he had... Dane took a sharp intake of breath and opened his eyes to look at Mori. They were wide with fear and still slight confusion. Could it be... could he have. Dane thought that he might be close to passing out at this point, but he took a shaky breath before lifting his hand to Mori's face. He gently touched the blush on his cheek before moving it down to his neck gently. "I don't know why... and I'm still incredibly confused. But I don't... I don't mind you saying that. But I'm going to do this now... and I've never..." Dane couldn't get out that he'd never kissed a guy before, so instead he leaned forward hesitantly and pressed their lips together.

It was the last thing Mori had expected, but the best thing he could have hoped for. Without even meaning to, he leaned into Dane's touch and stared at him, almost awed as their faces drew close. The other man's lips felt warm and full against his. The angel responded almost immediately, wrapping a hand around Dane's arm.
Mori pulled back after a moment of simply letting himself enjoy the kiss. His heart was hammering and his wings had wrapped around them. "Are you...I mean, you don't have to. I don't want you to feel obligated..." At the same time, though, he didn't want him to think he was pushing him away. "But if you think this is...something...well, you have time to decide, of course."

Sometimes Angels could be so stupid. He had never kissed a man before... but he thought that it just felt... right. He wasn't opposed to the idea and couldn't think of anyone better than Mori. "Shut up." Dane told him, but smiled at him none the less. They were enclosed by his wings and it was almost perfect. "I think we were both kind of blind. I just... didn't think about that. Why would I when I didn't think I swung for that team, after all." Dane told him and moved to wrap both of his arms around Mori and bury his face in his neck.
He smiled into it. "You'll have to teach me of course. I don't know how to be in a relationship with a man. Especially an older man. But I think... I'd be willing to try. If he'd be willing to have me of course." Dane muttered into his neck, hoping he would be able to hear because he was unsure of how much louder he would be able to talk. He was just a bit scared. He hadn't done this before... and wasn't entirely sure how it worked.

This seemed like a dream, like some unlikely fantasy he might cook up alone in his room. But the body against his was firm and the breath on his neck warm. Moriel's arms wrapped around Dane's waist, pulled him close. A smile crept across the angel's face and he leaned down and caught Dane's lips again, just because he could.
"I'm happy to show you whatever you need me to," he assured Dane. "Of course I'm willing. I'm...I'm in disbelief." His fingers stroked over the man's jaw gently. "There's nothing to know, though. Really. It's just like any other relationship, just...different anatomy." He smirked and felt himself start to relax for what must have been the first time in weeks. "You don't know how long I've been trying to fight this off. I thought for sure..." He shook his head and sighed. "I was being foolish, though."

Dane was glad Mori finally decided that he was going to stop being so timid, or whatever he was before and wrapped his arms around Dane's waist. Their bodies were close and everything seemed so new... yet it wasn't really. They had been sleeping in the same bed for weeks now, yet neither of them had opened their eyes to see what they were holding onto. Or well... Mori did but didn't see it correctly. Probably because Dane didn't see it right himself. He smiled when Mori kissed him again. That'd take some getting used to, but he was pretty sure he could cope. In fact, he was more worried about coping when they weren't on his lips.
"You should have just talked to me about it, Mori... Granted if you'd done this earlier, I might not accepted my own feelings, but still. I hate to think you started to like me so long ago yet didn't say anything. No one should hold those feelings in like that." Dane told him and smiled brightly. He couldn't remember actually smiling in a few days. Probably because he was ignoring Mori and Mori was kind of the only one that made him smile like that. "We were both being foolish though. So we'll just leave it at that."

Moriel felt he couldn't hold Dane close enough. His wings were nearly touching behind Dane's back, brushing against the man's shoulder blades. It was like seeing him anew, not as a charge or a friend or a forbidden object of affection, but as something he could hold and feel for without shame. "I think I first felt it that day in the library," he said. "When you found that Verne book. Something about the look on your face...but I didn't really realize until I started going to your room at night. Until I saw your expression when you were at peace."
To finally be expressing all of these pent-up emotions was such a relief. He felt light, heady, like he might float into the atmosphere and forget what it was to be corporal. Yet the pounding in his chest and the shivers down his spine, the rough five o'clock shadow beneath his hand - they all reminded him that he was very much present here. A body holding another body.
He kissed Dane again, then pulled back just long enough to murmur. "I apologize. I've just thought about it so long...I can't seem to stop myself." And once again his lips were moving with Dane's.

The library? Was he kidding? BUt that was so long ago... and it was embarrassing for Dane! How was that when Mori first felt it. "Oh... so when I make a fool of myself, you start getting feelings for me. So typical." Dane teased him. He didn't mind of course. It was kind of cute. Dane just couldn't pass up on a good joke. "I think for me it was probably when I woke up and saw you... and realized what you were doing. Although I would never have admitted it before now." Dane confessed, but wasn't even sure where the confession had been hiding all that time. Then Mori went to kiss him again... and the feeling of their lips together was something Dane had never felt before in his life. He didn't want the feeling to ever go away.
So when Mori apologized, he could have kicked him for being so stupid. Mori didn't leave him much room to correct him though as he put their lips together once again and Dane was happy. BUt just to make sure Mori didn't think he wanted him to pull away or something, he crept a hand up to his neck and held him there firmly as he moved their lips together. He might not have consciously wanted this before now, but he knew his subconscious and body did, so he wasn't going to make them suffer any longer than they already had to.

It felt like they stood there for an eternity, losing themselves in one another. Moriel let his mind flee to the far off reaches of space while his lips opened against Dane's and they slowly explored one another's mouths. He'd been waiting for too long, and now that they were finally here, his rational thinking was practically out the door.
When finally the two of them had to split for a breath, the dizzying passion he'd fallen into ebbed just enough for Mori to catch hold of himself. He stared into those bright green eyes and grinned. "I think maybe," he murmured, lips almost touching as he spoke, "we should go downstairs. If we keep this up too much longer, I might have to take you to bed." He laughed, his tone teasing so it would be clear that it was a joke.
He wasn't going to push this too fast. He would have to give Dane time to adjust, time to think about what this meant for him. Still, he was a bit concerned that he might get too worked up. His fingers pushed a stray bit of hair from Dane's forehead, tracing his face down to his jaw. Mori couldn't get enough of touching him.

Kissing. Their lips on each others. Their bodies pre shed together. Dane liked the feel of everything. He had kissed before obviously and he was happy to find out it really wasn't any different. It felt kind of... better actually. They had deepened it. Dane had opened his mouth for Mori and vise versa. It felt nice being that close to someone physically when you were already close to him mentally. He thought he could get used to it. In fact he knew he could.
When Mori pulled back Dane pouted slightly but he had a point. They should probably go downstairs before Dane took Mori's joke seriously. No matter how inexperienced he was about this. He was willing to learn.
"Yeah. Okay. If we have to. We should go watch a movie and then we can cuddle on the couch." Dane suggested with a bright smile as he shivered from the hand on his face tracing it. Dane just smiled brightly. Things were looking pretty good right now. Dane was happy. He was truly happy.

That pout...the fact that Dane was disappointed to stop kissing him, it was adorable and amazing. Mori couldn't help but brush his thumb over those lips. "That sounds perfect," he agreed. Outside the lantern room, the winter air swirled against the glass, whistling as it went. The sun was starting to sink, tingeing the sky a faint pink. The boats on the horizon drifted in slowly.
Without warning, the light went on, sending a brilliant beam of light out toward the water, then slowly swinging around toward them. Moriel laughed and looked away so as not to be blinded by its brightness. "I suppose that's our cue to go."
Moriel reluctantly released his hold on Dane and headed down the ladder. The house even looked different. Brighter, someplace he could share with someone he cared about. He would have to tell Angela tomorrow, but for tonight, he would lie curled together with Dane.

When the light turned on, Dane closed his eyes and sank into Mori a bit before he let him go. Things were kind of perfect right now. They really were. Dane kissed the corner of his mouth gently just before Mori pulled away and went down the ladder. Dane followed right after him. The smile on his lips not showing any sign of leaving. He didn't want it to leave either. He was happy. He felt normal. He really did. For once he wasn't thinking about the war or what had happened to him, he was thinking about Mori's lips on his and the way he felt under his touch.
"Where do you want to watch the movie at? Downstairs?" Dane suggested and did his best not to add 'or in a bedroom'. Was that too fast? Probably. He wasn't even sure he would be able to do something that fast. He didn't know anything... and it was kind of scary to think about. BUt he would figure it out eventually. As soon as hey were both down the ladder, Dane took hold of Mori's hand tightly. He wasn't planning on letting the angel go tonight.

The next few days were a fantastic blur of moments Mori could hardly believe were his. It had been too much to ask, too much to expect that Dane might feel this way about him, but here they were. Feeling this way about one another. And, yes, Dane still had some things to work through. Okay, a lot of things. But when they held one another, it was quite simple. It was serenity. For the angel, time became a blur of vague reality between bright, dreamy instants of cuddles on the couch, kisses in the dark, embraces unsolicited and highly appreciated.
Still, there were a lot of things they had swept under the rug during that first week. Like what this meant for Dane's identity, what their relationship actually was, and where they were willing to go with it. When they curled together to go to sleep or when they woke, tangled, in the morning, their kisses had gotten a bit...passionate, but that's as far as things had gone. Moriel was okay with that. He wasn't about to push, was just grateful that he had this much.
That morning, he woke with the sun filtering in through Dane's bedroom window. The angel nuzzled his face against the side of Dane's head, trying vainly to hide from the light. After a moment, though, his wakefulness was unavoidable. Mori lifted his head and placed a faint kiss on his partner's temple, held him a little closer, let out a soft sigh.

Dane was pretty sure this was the best he had felt since he got back from the war. It felt like he belonged here. With Moriel. He wasn't sure why. He had tried to get himself not to think about what it meant. What he was doing and what it meant to be with a guy. He had never actually even thought about being with a guy before... but he supposed the feelings could have been always there. Hiding deep inside him. He was probably just afraid to admit it to him. He liked Moriel though. He liked being with him. He liked their cuddles and when their kisses got passionate, he didn't want to stop.
He was happy. He hadn't had a nightmare since they started being...whatever they were. Although he supposed the nightmares had stopped as soon as Mori started sleeping with him every night. He didn't really care what they were. Dane was happy and he didn't plan on becoming unhappy any time soon.
He felt the heat from the sun before he fully woke up. He was in a half sleep daze as he felt Mori move next to him slightly. When he felt the lips on his temple his lips gave him away by smiling slightly. "Morning." Dane mumbled sleepily. He kept his eyes closed but leaned his head toward the angel and snuggled into him a bit more.

Shifting against him in bed, Moriel scooted down so their faces were level enough to share a real kiss. "Good morning, Dane," he murmured back against his lips. "I hope I didn't wake you." He pressed his face against the man's neck and breathed in his scent a moment. It was comforting, familiar already.
One hand skimmed idly over Dane's torso, rubbing at his abdomen and sneaking to a patch of bare skin at his waist. That was as far as he let himself go before moving his hand back up to settle above the man's chest, so he could feel the steady heartbeat under his ribs. He leaned up and kissed him again.
To be honest, after what had happened with Chase, Mori was (needlessly) anxious about doing anything too physical. Of course, he knew he was attracted to Dane, knew it was more than friendly affection because he'd tried to keep it at friendly affection. So really there wasn't anything to worry about. And yet. Sometimes these emotions were more frustrating than beautiful and fascinating.
"What would you like to do today?" he asked, voice low and soft with sleep.
